Achieving Dataset Parity to Close the Robotics Training Gap

May 15, 2026 by David Edwards

It was in 1954 when the world witnessed its first real industrial robot, Unimate, a machine built to perform repetitive factory operations.

Fast forward to 2026: today robots like Unitree GD01 are being trained to learn adaptive mobility, AI decision-making, and terrain navigation.

In just half a century, robotics have evolved from immobile programmable arms into intelligent mobile systems capable of seeing and interacting with the physical environments around them. [Read more…] about Achieving Dataset Parity to Close the Robotics Training Gap

From expo momentum to deep-tech investment: Osaka pushes to become Asia’s next global financial hub

May 15, 2026 by David Edwards

Osaka is the second-largest city in Japan after Tokyo, which was, for a long time – until this year, the most populous city in the world – having lost the title this year to Jakarta, Indonesia.

The “Vision of Global Financial City Osaka” is an initiative to build a city that attracts overseas investment, financial institutions and global talent, thereby supporting the growth of the regional economy.

In March 2022, Osaka Prefecture formulated a strategy with a consortium of 33 companies and organizations – including government bodies, economic groups, and universities – launching the initiative through close collaboration among industry, government, and academia.

The initiative promotes the expansion into Osaka of foreign financial businesses including asset management and fintech firms. The defining feature of the vision is its aim to drive industrial growth and address social issues through the power of finance, rather than simply seeking to establish a financial hub. MIPI Alliance launches ‘Physical AI Birds of a Feather group’ focused on humanoids

May 15, 2026 by David Edwards

The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops specifications that standardize wired interfaces for mobile and other connected ecosystems, has announced the formation of a “Physical AI Birds of a Feather (BoF) group” dedicated to exploring upcoming technologies and trends in the physical AI market, with an initial focus on humanoids.

The group will examine how MIPI specifications can support the rapidly developing humanoid application space.

The market emerging around humanoid robots is dynamic, with Yole Group projecting a 56 percent CAGR to reach more than $6 billion by 2030. As adoption is expected to accelerate at the start of the next decade, the value could soar to $51 billion by 2035. Opinion: Why industrial AI must be trained on physics, not prompts

May 14, 2026 by David Edwards

By Massimiliano Moruzzi, founder and CEO of Xaba.ai

Walk into any modern manufacturing facility and you’ll see the same tension playing out on the floor: incredibly capable machines, hemmed in by the assumption that everything will go exactly as planned. For decades, that assumption held well enough, but today it’s becoming a liability.

Manufacturers are under mounting pressure to produce faster, absorb more variability, and cut downtime, all while a new wave of AI promises to deliver “intelligence” without the complexity of traditional programming.

The pitch sounds compelling, but most of this AI is built on the same foundation as your company’s chatbot, and you cannot run a factory on prompts. [Read more…] about Opinion: Why industrial AI must be trained on physics, not prompts
