Epson Robots expands SCARA lineup with high-payload LS50C

May 18, 2026 by David Edwards

Epson Robots has expanded its SCARA lineup with the new LS50C. As Epson’s largest payload SCARA, the LS50C is designed to deliver powerful performance and flexibility in a compact, cost-effective form factor.

Offering multiple configurations, with a 1,000 mm reach and support for payloads up to 50 kg, it is engineered to handle demanding, high-precision automation needs while maximizing capability and minimizing footprint.

Paired with SafeSense technology, which may reduce the need for traditional safety guarding in certain applications, following proper risk assessment, the system enables users with a more efficient use of space and can contribute to lowering the overall cost of their automation setup. Precision robotics: Applications in electronics assembly and medical device manufacturing

November 30, 2025 by David Edwards

A few decades ago, industrial robots were extraordinary because they could place heavy parts with centimetre-level accuracy. Today, the competitive benchmark has shifted by several orders of magnitude.

Modern precision robots routinely achieve ±5 µm repeatability, with some specialist motion stages achieving sub-micrometre accuracy. To put that into context:

  • 1 micrometre (µm) equals one-thousandth of a millimetre, often called a micron. Put another way, 1 micrometre is one-millionth of a metre.
  • A human hair is roughly 70 to 100 µm thick.
  • An advanced SCARA robot can place components with an error margin smaller than one-tenth of a human hair’s diameter.
  • High-end photonics assembly systems use motion stages with a command resolution of 0.1 µm – too fine for the average human eye to see, even when aided by most optical microscopes.

How Robotics is Powering the Next Wave of Global Electronics Manufacturing

November 6, 2025 by Sam Francis

Robotics is reshaping electronics manufacturing like a quiet electric tide, lifting factories on every continent into a new era of precision and scale.

As devices grow smaller, production cycles grow faster, and global demand grows louder, automated systems are stepping in to handle tasks that once pushed human limits.

From foundational control layers to advanced collaborative robots, automation is becoming the backbone of how smartphones, circuit boards, and high-tech components are built. [Read more…] about How Robotics is Powering the Next Wave of Global Electronics Manufacturing

Interview with Epson Robots’ Scott Marsic: ‘We make it simple to deploy robots’

November 5, 2025 by Sam Francis

Epson Robots has been a quiet but influential force in industrial robotics for decades, particularly in high-precision automation.

The company’s history in robotics dates back to its internal efforts to automate watch assembly, which pushed it toward small-parts handling, speed, and accuracy rather than heavy-payload industrial automation. That heritage still shapes its strategy.

Today, Epson is best known for its strong market position in the SCARA robot segment – where it has held a prominent position globally for many years – and for supplying compact six-axis systems, vision tools, force-sensing technology, and integrated software environments designed to reduce deployment time and complexity.
