Why Route Planning Sits at the Heart of Last-mile Transformation

July 2, 2026 by Sam Francis

Last-mile delivery is the most expensive, most visible, and most operationally complex part of the supply chain. It accounts for up to 53% of total shipping costs.

It is where customer promises are either kept or broken. And it is the segment under the most pressure from rising delivery volumes, tighter time windows, and customers who now expect real-time visibility as a baseline.

Technology investments in the last mile have accelerated across warehouse automation, telematics, and customer communication. But none of those investments produce consistent results without one thing underneath them: a strong route planning foundation. Exol launches US robotic fulfillment network with ‘fulfillment-as-a-service’ model

April 9, 2026 by Sam Francis

Exol (formerly GreenBox Logistics) has launched its first US “physical AI” fulfillment facilities, introducing what the company describes as a new logistics model designed to expand access to large-scale warehouse automation.

The company says it plans to build a nationwide network of six automated sites totaling around six million square feet, aimed at supporting retail, wholesale and consumer goods companies. The first facility in Atlanta is now operational, while additional locations are planned in California, Texas, New Jersey and Illinois over the next year.

The concept behind Exol’s offering – described as “robotic fulfillment-as-a-service” – is to provide companies with access to automated warehouse infrastructure without requiring them to invest in their own systems.
