Udelv accelerates autonomous delivery with Microsoft Azure

Udelv will deploy their newest autonomous delivery van (ADV), Newton, to Microsoft’s Redmond, Washington, USA campus to showcase its leading autonomous delivery service, dubbed “Autodeliv”.

The Newton ADV has modular cargo space, 1,200lb carrying capacity, and experience of more than 10,000 autonomous deliveries projected by the end of 2019.

The company plans on deploying hundreds of ADVs in key markets by the end of 2020.

Daimler tests weird new service that delivers your online shopping to the boot of your car

Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, is testing an oddball new service which enables you to have your online shopping order delivered to your parked car – and even put it in the boot for you. 

Called “Chark”, the innovative service is currently being tested in the greater Stuttgart area of Germany.

Panasonic launches electric vehicle charging service in India

Panasonic has announced the launch of a smart EV charging service in India.

The futuristic charging service combines physical components such as charging stations, swap stations, on board charges, telematics systems and virtual components such as cloud service, analytics, intuitive dashboard, and artificial intelligence to deliver a one stop solution.

Nymbus is a technology platform designed and developed to cater to the growing mobility market in India.

Second SpaceDataHighway satellite to launch in July

The EDRS-C satellite, the second node of the SpaceDataHighway network (also known as EDRS), will be launched into geostationary orbit at 31° East on 24 July 2019 by an Ariane 5 launcher.

Once positioned above Europe, it will provide redundant back-up for the SpaceDataHighway system, double transmission capacity and be able to relay the data from two observation satellites simultaneously.

This second satellite will be joining EDRS-A which transmits the images of Earth acquired by the Copernicus programme’s four Sentinel observation satellites on a daily basis.

US Postal Service testing driverless trucks from TuSimple

The US Postal Service is testing driverless trucks from TuSimple in a two-week pilot program.

TuSimple, a self-driving truck company, says the USPS has awarded it a contract to perform five round trips during the trial, hauling USPS trailers more than 1,000 miles between the Postal Service’s Phoenix, Arizona and Dallas, Texas distribution centers.

DHL launches last-mile drone delivery service in China

DHL Express has partnered with autonomous aerial vehicle company EHang to jointly launch a fully automated and intelligent smart drone delivery solution to tackle the last-mile delivery challenges in the urban areas of China.

The launch ceremony was held today at the EHang Command and Control Center in Guangzhou, with the attendance of senior executives from both companies.

This cutting-edge solution takes its inaugural flight for a DHL customer, making DHL the first international express company to provide such a service in China.

Oceaneering selected to ‘digitally’ transform Pacific Drilling’s global fleet

Oceaneering International, Inc., and Pacific Drilling have entered into a five-year Digital Services Package agreement to provide Pacific’s customers with better reliability and improved throughput enabling streaming video and real-time data.

This will allow the provision of emerging services such as remote ROV piloting, surveying, and automation aboard Pacific Drilling’s high-specification drillship fleet.

As a result of these efforts, Pacific Drilling’s customers can benefit from higher security, increased access and management of third parties as well as new and expanded digital services.

UTC begins work on hybrid electric aeroplane

United Technologies (UTC) has recently launched the advanced projects group within the company, which moves at speed to build and pilot ambitious product and service demonstrators.

The group’s first product demonstrator is a hybrid-electric X-plane under the project name, Project 804.

The number “804” represents the straight-line mileage between the Pratt & Whitney facility in Longueuil, Québec, and the Collins Aerospace facility in Rockford, Illinois.
