Hacking Robots: The 5 Threats You Need to Know About

February 6, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Robots have already flipped manufacturing industries on their heads in the last couple of decades. With the potential to revolutionize everything from the military and law enforcement to education, it’s vital to take stock of the security risks that come with increased automation.

Manufacturing companies are the second biggest target for ransomware gangs. If robots are vulnerable to attack, money-hungry criminals will find a way to disrupt factories and demand payment to restore systems.

Where exactly do the risks to robots and automation systems come from? We’re going to explore who is likely to exploit issues in system confidentiality, integrity, availability, and authentication. [Read more…] about Hacking Robots: The 5 Threats You Need to Know About

How manufacturers can go wireless to unleash unlimited possibilities

March 30, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

By Oliver Wang, product marketing manager, edge connectivity and computing, Moxa

Where it’s difficult to hardwire industrial operations to ensure time to market, industrial wireless LANs (WLANs) provide an ideal alternative to traditional wired Ethernet LANs.

Indeed, recent advances in wireless technology have contributed to industrial WLANs becoming commonplace solutions in automotive plants, warehouses, and transportation systems, among others, where automated equipment is required that is constantly moving or difficult to wire.

Industrial WLANs enable these types of systems to be connected for enhanced operational efficiency. [Read more…] about How manufacturers can go wireless to unleash unlimited possibilities

NXP unveils new chips featuring enhanced Bluetooth capabilities for automotive and industrial markets

January 29, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

NXP Semiconductors has launched new devices within its KW3x range of microcontrollers (MCUs). The new KW39/38/37 MCUs add Bluetooth 5.0 long-range capabilities and expanded Bluetooth advertising channels.

These enhancements are made while offering seamless migration with hardware, software and tools compatibility with the previous generation of devices, KW34/35/36.

The connectivity MCUs allow Bluetooth LE devices to communicate at distances of more than a mile and increase the amount of Bluetooth advertising channels and advertising data within the Bluetooth standard, the predominant IoT protocol. Second SpaceDataHighway satellite to launch in July

May 24, 2019 by Anna

The EDRS-C satellite, the second node of the SpaceDataHighway network (also known as EDRS), will be launched into geostationary orbit at 31° East on 24 July 2019 by an Ariane 5 launcher.

Once positioned above Europe, it will provide redundant back-up for the SpaceDataHighway system, double transmission capacity and be able to relay the data from two observation satellites simultaneously.

This second satellite will be joining EDRS-A which transmits the images of Earth acquired by the Copernicus programme’s four Sentinel observation satellites on a daily basis.

This year’s InnoTrans event is set to be the biggest in its 11-year history, with record numbers of companies booked to showcase their transport solutions.

InnoTrans claims it is the world’s leading international trade fair for transport technology, and this year almost 3,000 exhibitors are preparing their stalls for the 100,000 trade visitors the organisers are predicting will attend.

InnoTrans is a favourite with train companies, particularly as they look to upgrade their rail networks using automation  technology as did Norway, and because there is increasing interest in and talk of intelligent transport systems.

And this year the French are particularly enthusiastic about the event.

Famed for the TGV – Train à Grande Vitesse – high-speed rail service, the French legion readying themselves to go to the event boast that the French are “at the forefront of the rail industry not only in France but all over the world”.  [Read more…] about InnoTrans 2016 prepares for record number of exhibitors
