Haltian launches 5G-ready smart factory solution with AWS IoT

May 24, 2019 by David Edwards

Haltian has launched what it says is a 5G-ready smart factory solution with AWS IoT Greengrass edge computing capabilities.

Haltian says the new solution is an end-to-end smart factory service that reduces factory costs up to 90 percent, compared to traditional automation techniques, by providing a straightforward and secure asset and process digitalization for industrial enterprises.

This solution sees Haltian combine their Thingsee IoT platform and industry-grade retrofit sensors with AWS IoT Greengrass Edge Computing, and private LTE technology and paves the way for 5G. [Read more…] about Haltian launches 5G-ready smart factory solution with AWS IoT

Oceaneering selected to ‘digitally’ transform Pacific Drilling’s global fleet

May 7, 2019 by Anna

Oceaneering International, Inc., and Pacific Drilling have entered into a five-year Digital Services Package agreement to provide Pacific’s customers with better reliability and improved throughput enabling streaming video and real-time data.

This will allow the provision of emerging services such as remote ROV piloting, surveying, and automation aboard Pacific Drilling’s high-specification drillship fleet.

As a result of these efforts, Pacific Drilling’s customers can benefit from higher security, increased access and management of third parties as well as new and expanded digital services.

How is 5G different from 4G?

May 6, 2019 by Anna

The next step in wireless connectivity is not really a step at all—it’s a leap. 5G Ultra Wideband will fundamentally change the ways we live, work, learn and play, and on a grand scale.

But a 5G-powered world won’t materialize out of thin air. It will be built off of existing networks and existing knowhow.

At Verizon, that process begins with America’s largest and most reliable 4G LTE network.

Interview: A new type of networking that is claimed to be faster and more reliable

March 21, 2018 by Abdul Montaqim

rajant kinetic mesh

In this exclusive interview, Todd Rigby of Rajant talks about a new type of networking technology that he claims is faster and more reliable

A growing number of factories, warehouses and other industrial facilities are installing computer networks in order to make the most of the opportunities offered by the internet of things.

Typically, sensors are connected to traditional machinery, and then those sensors are connected to what are referred to as “gateway” devices, which are like routers.

This gateway can send the data collected and sent to it by the sensor either to a computer on-site or in the cloud through an internet connection.  [Read more…] about Interview: A new type of networking that is claimed to be faster and more reliable

GE Digital, Nokia Networks and Qualcomm Technologies say they have successfully demonstrated a private LTE network for the industrial internet of things market.

LTE stands for “long term evolution” and refers to an advanced version of the 4G network.

The new GE-Nokia-Qualcomm network meshes together each party’s platforms and technologies.

The companies plan to further research and conduct live field trials throughout 2017 based on this demonstration, which they says is “designed to advance the digitization of industrial processes”.  [Read more…] about GE, Nokia and Qualcomm unveil ‘first’ private LTE-based trial network customized for industrial IoT

General Motors says it has the largest number of connected vehicles in the world, with almost 3 million currently on the road – far more than any other automaker.

General Motors claims it “started the connected car revolution 20 years ago” with the launch of OnStar and continues to deliver innovative solutions at a scale unmatched by anyone in the industry.

OnStar is the enabler for Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Opel and Vauxhall to introduce new technology features across a broad range of drivers. Today, the blue button brand delivers services in four continents, 18 countries, 10 languages and 13 time zones, with more than a billion customer interactions.

While emergency and security services remain a staple of OnStar, the company has expanded to offer customer-driven mobility solutions that create a personalized experience for GM and Maven customers.  [Read more…] about General Motors claims highest number of connected vehicles

Intel demonstrates its technology in a Yuneec unmanned aerial vehicle

LG and Intel are working together to bring 5G technologies to the car.

5G telematics delivers data faster than 4G LTE, even reducing latency when cars are traveling at high speeds, allowing for greater vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructure, and vehicle to pedestrian communication.

LTE stands for long term evolution, which basically is a relatively new communications network that has the capacity to evolve and improve over time, 5G being the next stage. [Read more…] about LG and Intel to develop 5G technology for connected cars
