How Automation is Influencing the Automotive Industry Today

August 1, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Last year, robot orders were up by 67 percent in comparison to the previous year. And according to the International Federation of Robotics, 1 in every 2 industrial robots sold globally is bought by US automakers. This goes to show just how much the auto industry appreciates the benefits of automation.

Automakers have always been pioneers of automation; they started using sensor technology and industrial robots in their assembly plants years ago to increase efficiency and productivity. Want to know how automation is influencing the automotive industry today? Read on. [Read more…] about How Automation is Influencing the Automotive Industry Today

Industrial robot costs to drop by half in the next three years

May 12, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Karthee Madasamy, founder and managing partner at MFV Partners

According to ARK Invest research, industrial robot costs will drop by 50-60 percent by 2025. This dramatic drop in costs, combined with other factors such as the global pandemic’s acceleration of industries embracing automation, has resulted in a situation where interest in robotics has reached a fever pitch.

In fact, in the first year of the pandemic venture firms poured $6.3 billion into robotics companies, up nearly 50 percent from the $4.3 billion they invested over the same period a year earlier.

Further, in North America, industrial robot sales had their strongest year ever in 2021. With this activity it’s not surprising that the global market is forecasted to reach $31 billion by 2028. [Read more…] about Industrial robot costs to drop by half in the next three years

Crypto: Reshaping Future

December 29, 2021 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Several technological advances have been hailed as game-changers in the corporate future. Organizations have depended on technology for decades to function more efficiently and securely.

Blockchain is undeniably exciting. While opinions will always range on which technology will have the most impact.

Transactions are secured in a secure digital ledger that can be audited. Keyless signature systems and the ability to track products from farm to table are just two of the many benefits. [Read more…] about Crypto: Reshaping Future

‘Robotaxis will be disruptive to conventional taxis and ride-hailing, but not car ownership’, says new report

November 2, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Robotaxis remain one of the most pursued applications for autonomous vehicle technologies today, with many developers envisioning an end to – or at least a significant reduction in – car ownership.

Developers of autonomous vehicles, specifically those focused on Level-4 self-driving vehicles, often focus on mobility services as the first application.

Not only is there a demonstrated market for taxis and ride-hailing, but it’s a market where the high costs of labor create high prices, making it a ripe opportunity for autonomous vehicle deployment. Landscaping robot company Electric Sheep Robotics officially launches

August 26, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Robotic lawnmower startup Electric Sheep Robotics has now officially launched as “an autonomy partner to the landscaping industry”.

The company is tackling the industry’s single most pressing challenge, a decades-long shortage of reliable labor. This has often resulted in businesses that are unable to grow beyond a certain size even if the demand is present.

Over 50 percent of landscape maintenance involves lawn mowing, a tedious and repetitive process made physically grueling by exposure to harsh weather. This exacerbates the industry’s labor shortages, low growth and shrinking margins. [Read more…] about Landscaping robot company Electric Sheep Robotics officially launches

How are AGVs different from AMRs?

March 8, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Automating internal supply chain or logistic flows is always a challenge for both big and small companies. With more and more sophisticated systems, companies are increasingly looking to replace operator dependency and let robots handle the goods transfer activity.

Two automation systems are customer’s go-to option for goods/pallet movement: automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

While AGVs have been around for a long time, drastically increasing their functionality and technology over time, AMRs are gaining traction in recent times. [Read more…] about How are AGVs different from AMRs?

Robotics and Software Development: Common Future

February 25, 2021 by Polly 1 Comment

In 2021 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the concept of robotics.

The word “robot” was coined by the Prague playwright Karel Capek for his play about artificial humans created to help us with hard tasks. Now, 100 years later, we use robotics in our everyday life, although not exactly as Capek imagined.

Automated systems penetrated different domains of human life. Yet, we are far from the independent mechanical flawless systems to substitute humans. The success of robotics is intrinsically linked to advances in software development. [Read more…] about Robotics and Software Development: Common Future
