Robotics market to exceed $150 billion by 2025, says report

August 21, 2019 by David Edwards

The global robotics market is set to exceed $150 billion by 2025, according to a new report, Disruption in Human-Robot Collaboration.

PreScouter, a Chicago-based research intelligence company, has released a detailed report on the recent advances in robotics and how these advances will be disrupting the workforce, promoting improved collaboration between man and machine.

The researcher says the global robotics market will exceed $150 billion by 2025 and the industrial robot sector will account for nearly $13 billion of that in North America alone. [Read more…] about Robotics market to exceed $150 billion by 2025, says report

DJI uses Ubuntu in drone computer

July 5, 2019 by Anna

dji Phantom-4-RTK

Ubuntu, the most popular Linux operating system for the Internet of Things, is now available on the Manifold 2, a high-performance embedded computer offered by drone manufacturer, DJI.

The Manifold 2 is designed to fit onto DJI’s drone platforms via the onboard SDK and enables developers to transform aerial platforms into truly smarter drones, performing complex computing tasks and advanced image processing, which in-turn creates rapid flexibility for enterprise usage.

As part of the offering, the Manifold 2 is planning to feature snaps. Snaps are containerised software packages, designed to work perfectly across cloud, desktop, and IoT devices – with this the first instance of the technology’s availability on drones.

There’s an app for that: Automating the moving of parts from warehouses to field service technicians

June 7, 2019 by David Edwards

By Travis Smith, founder and CTO, WithoutWire Inventory Sciences

A typical process to move parts from a warehouse to a field technician generates a 77 percent reduction in barcode scans using automated optimization

Field technicians are paid to do their job, not to study software manuals. Many field techs are under 40 and have spent their lives using Android and iOS apps. These solutions are easy to install; with a minimal learning curve, automating, tracking, and replenishing truck inventory in real-time is now possible.  [Read more…] about There’s an app for that: Automating the moving of parts from warehouses to field service technicians

Digital Visual Management: Integration of Human-Centricity and Automation

June 3, 2019 by David Edwards

By Nicola Olivetti, Lean and Industry 4.0 Program Director, iObeya

Recently, a leading industrial journalist asked for an explanation about the pragmatic integration of human-centricity and automation. Below are my responses.

Question: How can you preserve a human-centric approach to collegial work in a highly automated environment?

Answer: Companies with an authentic Lean culture leverage automation to expand the scope of teams by granting real-time access to valuable information. This allows for important activity and relevant people (experts, partners, suppliers, customers) to co-operate in a horizontal and agile manner. Tests reveal potential of truck ‘platooning’ in Germany

May 20, 2019 by Anna

A pilot project on truck platooning has been successfully completed by DB Schenker, MAN Truck & Bus and Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

‘Platooning’ is when two or more trucks drive in a tight convoy on a motorway, benefiting from reduced air drag. All vehicles driving in the platoon are electronically linked to each other

Operating electronically linked trucks on German motorways is safe, technically reliable and easily applicable in the routine of a logistics company.

New solder paste enables further miniaturisation in automotive electronics

May 1, 2019 by Anna

For the production of miniaturised electrical systems, such as those used in the automotive industry, solder material must meet extremely high requirements.

In response, Heraeus Electronics has developed its new solder paste Microbond SMT650, which it says guarantees consistently high surface resistance.

The combination of the new F650 flux system with the Innolot metal alloy increases reliability and prevents electrochemical migration even under the most extreme environmental conditions.
