Autonomous car from Italian university wins the racing challenge

A team called PoliMOVE, from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, has won the second annual Indy Autonomous Challenge @ CES.

The team’s car reached a maximum speed of 180 mph (290Km/h), a new autonomous speed world record for a racetrack.

Pushing boundaries of head-to-head autonomous-racing, PoliMOVE competed at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway against a field of nine teams from 17 universities spanning six countries, seeking to break autonomous racing records. ABB has enhanced its RobotStudio robot programming and simulation software with cloud-enabled functionality. The new RobotStudio Cloud enables individuals and teams to collaborate in real-time on robot cell designs from anywhere in the world, on any device.

Nimbus’ in-browser simulation ‘reduces costs by 80 percent’

Cogniteam says its Nimbus Robotic operating system’s in-browser simulation “reduces robot simulation costs by 80 percent”, adding that the software is focused on cost-saving and collaboration, enabling teams to simulate robots at “breakneck speeds”.

Dr Yehuda Elmaliach, co-founder and CEO of Cogniteam, says: “Upload your robot and drag & drop sensors, then run an in-browser simulation without worrying about costs or hardware capabilities.”

Indy Autonomous Challenge to race at iconic Texas speedway

The Indy Autonomous Challenge will return to racing at another iconic track with “The Indy Autonomous Challenge Powered by Cisco” at the Texas Motor Speedway on Friday, November 11th in Fort Worth, Texas.

This follows a record setting competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last October, and making history at CES 2022 in January with the world’s first-ever, head-to-head autonomous racing competition.

Nimbus says its low-code robotics programming capabilities give a new level of intelligence – or “street smarts” – to Rover Robotics’ machine platforms.

ESA marks first steps of new robot in space

While the world eagerly awaits the launch of a spacecraft to the Moon, a robot quietly reaches yet another milestone in space. The newest robotic arm outside the International Space Station woke up, stretched and moved a payload effortlessly from one side to the other of the Nauka science module.

The European Robotic Arm (ERA) successfully completed the first transfer following commands from cosmonauts inside the Space Station last week. Teams in Moscow, Russia and at ESA’s control room in the Netherlands monitored the moves, where the image above was taken by the European team on console on 24 August.

This first motion involved unleashing the payload – a single pin latch and its adapter for the cosmonaut support tool – from Nauka, moving it to the other side of the module and then installing it back to the original position. [Read more…] about ESA marks first steps of new robot in space
