How Industrial Chillers Enable Precision Manufacturing

August 16, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Industrial chillers provide precise temperature control for crucial manufacturing processes like laser technology and machine tools. Learn why they are a vital component.

The Critical Role of Industrial Chillers in Modern Manufacturing

Precision temperature control is the hidden hero behind many of the products we use every day. From the circuit boards in our phones to the plastic casing around our televisions, key manufacturing processes depend on maintaining optimal coolant temperatures.

Industrial chillers are indispensable in providing this precision temperature control that enables high-tech, high-quality production. Read on to learn more about their indispensable role. [Read more…] about How Industrial Chillers Enable Precision Manufacturing

Machine Vision: Pick and place with FLIR thermal imaging cameras

May 20, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Machine vision inspections using visual cameras can occasionally cause recognition problems if the product and background have too little color contrast. In such cases, thermal imaging cameras can be a practical solution – especially if the product has a different temperature than the transport medium.

In many cases such temperature differences are caused by the production process. Injection molding applications are ideal for this, for example, because the produced parts come out of the machine here at a relatively high temperature.

A few years ago, at the German Rubber Conference DKT in Nuremberg, two Austrian companies presented a possible solution in this area. [Read more…] about Machine Vision: Pick and place with FLIR thermal imaging cameras

Thermal imaging cameras in the food industry

March 23, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

In the food industry, it’s essential to carefully control the temperature of perishable goods throughout production, transportation, storage, and sales.

Repeated warnings about illnesses due to tainted and improperly cooked foods highlight the need for tighter process control. Because this almost always involves a human factor, food processors need tools that automate crucial operations in a way that helps minimize human error while holding down costs.

Thermal imaging cameras are such a tool. Using FLIR thermal imaging cameras, you can make automated non-contact temperature measurements in many food processing applications. Analog video outputs can be viewed on video monitors, and digital temperature data, including MPEG4 video outputs, can be routed to a computer via Ethernet. Best MPPT or PWM solar controller for the camper

December 16, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

PWM and MPPT charge controllers are both devices widely used to charge batteries using energy produced by solar panels on campers and boats and, of course, in fixed installations.

The PWM controller is a switch connecting the solar panels to your service battery. This device can substantially reduce the voltage of the meetings until it reaches that of the battery bank.

The MPPT controller, on the other hand, is more sophisticated (and more expensive): it regulates its input voltage to harvest the maximum possible power from the solar panels. [Read more…] about Best MPPT or PWM solar controller for the camper

Benefits of Induction Hardening

November 11, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Case hardening process used to increase wear resistance, surface hardness and fatigue life through creation of a hardened surface layer while maintaining an unaffected core microstructure.

Induction hardening is used to increase the mechanical properties of ferrous components in a specific area. Typical applications are powertrain, suspension, engine components and stampings.

Induction hardening is excellent at repairing warranty claims / field failures. The primary benefits are improvements in strength, fatigue and wear resistance in a localised area without having to redesign the component. [Read more…] about Benefits of Induction Hardening

New sensor that mimics automatic human reaction to heat could pave the way for ‘soft robots of the future’

March 6, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

A new robotic sensor that mimics the automatic human reaction to heat is being hailed as a world first.

The device has been built by a team of experts from Liverpool Hope University, who say it’s the first sensor that can trigger this “sensory impulse” that the robotics community has yet seen.

The findings have been published in IEEE Xplore last December 15, 2021 as an early-access article and published this month in the IEEE Sensors Journal. [Read more…] about New sensor that mimics automatic human reaction to heat could pave the way for ‘soft robots of the future’

Abu Dhabi starts work on building region’s first-ever quantum computer

August 23, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Abu Dhabi’s Technology Innovation Institute, a pioneering global research and development centre that focuses on applied research, today unboxed the cryostat – the initial frame of its quantum computer that is being assembled in the UAE capital.

TII’s Quantum Research Centre (QRC) is spearheading the landmark advanced technology project that aims to give the world a quantum advantage through developing a supercomputer with exponential computational capabilities.

Two helium dilution refrigerators arrived from Finland earlier this week in massive wooden crates, an essential component that uses helium isotopes to cool the quantum chips or the brain of the computer and maintain the quantum information.
