Amazon to employ more robots than humans

February 13, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Online retail – and logistics – giant Amazon is planning to employ more robots than humans and expects its robotic workforce to outnumber its human employees in seven years.

This is according to comments by Cathie Wood, founder and CEO, ARK Investment Management, which has more than $14 billion worth of assets under management.

Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box show, Wood said: “Amazon is adding about a thousand robots a day. [Read more…] about Amazon to employ more robots than humans

Carbon Robotics adds LaserThinning capability to its LaserWeeder

February 13, 2023 by David Edwards

Carbon Robotics, an AI and robotics company specializing in agriculture, has introduced what it says is “the industry’s first LaserThinning capability”, continuing the “rapid innovation” of its LaserWeeder system.

LaserThinning targets areas where vegetable crops are purposefully overseeded and then thinned for optimal crop spacing, growth and yield. This is particularly valuable for farmers growing any direct seeded leafy green and cole crops – such as lettuce and broccoli.

By using lasers for thinning, the new solution does not require the use of any chemicals or manual hand labor, is unaffected by wind or moisture, and can be performed during the day or night. [Read more…] about Carbon Robotics adds LaserThinning capability to its LaserWeeder

EEVE says its robot remains unchallenged by Chinese imitator

February 13, 2023 by Mark Allinson

A Belgian robotics startup called EEVE says a Chinese company has been trying to copy its little helper robot but has so far failed to replicate its quality.

EEVE has built a robot it calls Willow (main picture), which mows the lawn, shreds and collects leaves, and can also be utilised as a security guard at night.

EEVE says it “continues to lead the way” in the world of robotics with this “ground-breaking vision-only robot”. [Read more…] about EEVE says its robot remains unchallenged by Chinese imitator

automatica returns for its second edition in 12 months

February 10, 2023 by David Edwards

Just one year after returning from its unscheduled break, automatica – one of the world’s leading exhibitions for smart automation and robotics – will be held again from June 27 to 30, 2023.

This is due to a change in its rhythm. From now on, the international automation industry will meet at the Munich exhibition center in odd years, side by side with “Laser World of Photonics – the World’s Leading Trade Fair with Congress for Photonics Components, Systems and Applications”.

Anja Schneider, exhibition director, is optimistic about the event coming up this summer: “Our lives are increasingly affected by global challenges such as supply chain issues and lack of specialists. [Read more…] about automatica returns for its second edition in 12 months

Rope Robotics says its robotic wind turbine blade repairs pay off in six months

February 9, 2023 by David Edwards

After over 18 months in operation, having repaired over 150 rain-damaged onshore wind turbine blades on three continents, the patented robot from Denmark’s Rope Robotics, the world leader in robotic blade maintenance, has demonstrated return on investment for turbine owners within just six months.

Compared to manual alternatives, the robot can repair the blade around four times faster at half the cost.

An increasing problem, rain erosion damage compromises aerodynamic performance of the blade and at worst can lead to blade failure and expensive turbine downtime. [Read more…] about Rope Robotics says its robotic wind turbine blade repairs pay off in six months
