Embark demonstrates its autonomous trucks’ emergency vehicle interaction capabilities

August 5, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Embark Trucks, a developer of autonomous technology for the trucking industry, has completed a public demonstration of its emergency vehicle interaction capability.

Working closely with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Embark developed the capability for Embark-powered trucks to identify and stop for law enforcement vehicles in situations such as traffic stops, and built communication protocols and standard operating procedures between autonomous trucks and law enforcement officers.

This represents the first-ever public demonstration of an autonomous truck being pulled over by law enforcement and participating in a routine traffic stop on a public highway. [Read more…] about Embark demonstrates its autonomous trucks’ emergency vehicle interaction capabilities

Turkcell and Ericsson perform ‘first’ 5G autonomous mobile robot demo in Turkey

May 13, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Telecommunications companies Turkcell and Ericsson say they have successfully performed “the first” industrial use case demonstration of an autonomous mobile robot safe crossing in Turkey.

The demonstration was deployed in close collaboration with Ericsson’s Industry 4.0 partners, autonomous mobile robot manufacturer Milvus Robotics and a global manufacturer of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications at Turkcell Kartal Plaza/Captive Office.

Milvus Robotics has integrated an industrial modem with 5G SA connection technology into their own produced SEIT 1500 AMR. [Read more…] about Turkcell and Ericsson perform ‘first’ 5G autonomous mobile robot demo in Turkey

Perrone Robotics completes series of public road tests of its autonomous vehicles

June 11, 2021 by Sam Francis Leave a Comment

Perrone Robotics, a provider of autonomous vehicle technology, says it has successfully completed a series of public road demonstrations in the city of Westminster, Maryland, as part of an event hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory (MAGIC) Autonomous Corridor Project.

Following the success achieved in Maryland a week before, the company conducted back-to-back public road tests for customers with a GreenPower AV Star zero-emission transit shuttle, and a Low Speed Vehicle neighborhood electric vehicle, both integrated with Perrone Autonomy.

These vehicles are slated for customer deployment later this summer for use in municipal and university transit applications. [Read more…] about Perrone Robotics completes series of public road tests of its autonomous vehicles

Showing robots how to drive a car… in just a few easy lessons

November 20, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

USC researchers have developed a method that could allow robots to learn new tasks, like setting a table or driving a car, from observing a small number of demonstrations.

Imagine if robots could learn from watching demonstrations: you could show a domestic robot how to do routine chores or set a dinner table. In the workplace, you could train robots like new employees, showing them how to perform many duties. On the road, your self-driving car could learn how to drive safely by watching you drive around your neighborhood.

Making progress on that vision, USC researchers have designed a system that lets robots autonomously learn complicated tasks from a very small number of demonstrations – even imperfect ones. The paper, titled Learning from Demonstrations Using Signal Temporal Logic, was presented at the Conference on Robot Learning (CoRL). Continental shows off autonomous mobility tech to German chancellor

September 24, 2019 by David Edwards

Automotive components giant Continental has been showing off its latest autonomous mobility technology to the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, at the IAA event.

Continental says Merkel’s visit is an implicit acknowledgment that autonomous vehicles have the potential to change everyone’s lives.

Chancellor was pictured (above) getting off a driverless “Robo-Taxi” – also called the “CUbE” and “EZ10 Shuttle” – which Continental developed in partnership with French company EasyMile, of which Continental has been a shareholder since 2017.
