Ready Robotics ‘making robotics system design easier’ for non-programmers

May 24, 2023 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Robotics hardware traditionally requires programmers to deploy it. Ready Robotics wants to change that with its “no code” software aimed at people working in manufacturing who haven’t got programming skills.

The Columbus, Ohio, startup is a spinout of robotics research from Johns Hopkins University. Kel Guerin was a PhD candidate there leading this research when he partnered with Benjamin Gibbs, who was at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, to land funding and pursue the company, now led by Gibbs as CEO.

Guerin, who’s now chief innovation officer at the startup, says: “There was this a-ha moment where we figured out that we could take these types of visual languages that are very easy to understand and use them for robotics.” [Read more…] about Ready Robotics ‘making robotics system design easier’ for non-programmers

CamSoda to launch autonomous vehicle in several US cities

April 18, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

CamSoda, an adult entertainment webcam company, says it is planning to launch driverless shuttles in several American cities.

The company unveiled the rendering for an eco-friendly, autonomous vehicle, aptly named the “SeXla”.

CamSoda says it was “inspired by the rise in autonomous robots”, adding that, considering many city dwellers don’t have access to a car, the SeXla gets people to their destination, while also “getting them off”. [Read more…] about CamSoda to launch autonomous vehicle in several US cities

Did Someone Say Co-Bots? How Human-Robot Teamwork Will Upend Manufacturing

April 25, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Matthew Cherewka, director of business development and strategy, Vecna Robotics

Advances in sensor and camera technologies have made robots more intelligent, allowing them to collaborate more with human workers instead of being isolated in cages or separate areas.

Known as co-bots (collaborative robots), this new form of robot can slow down or stop completely to prevent humans from getting injured, but they also enable companies to develop new human-robot workflows that automate previously manual methods.

In essence, they aim to focus on the “collaborative” aspect of the term, rather than the “robot”. [Read more…] about Did Someone Say Co-Bots? How Human-Robot Teamwork Will Upend Manufacturing

SVT Robotics’ develops SoftBot connector for RightHand Robotics

July 26, 2021 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

SVT Robotics, a developer of software for industrial robotics, has designed a new SoftBot Platform connector for RightHand Robotics, a specialist in autonomous robotic picking solutions.

SVT Robotics worked with RightHand Robotics to develop the pre-built connector between SVT’s SoftBot Platform and the RightPick 3 item-handling robot system, the company’s newest generation of the RightPick product suite and the world’s first autonomous piece-picking solution designed to be integrator-friendly.

T.J. Fanning, VP of sales for SVT, says: “By connecting to the pre-built standard integrations of our SoftBot Platform, RightHand Robotics customers who adopt the RightPick 3 system can now deploy without the need for custom integration code.
