Robots-as-a-Service or Software-as-a-Service: Which Technology Trend is the Future?

January 29, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Many people have not yet heard of Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS). This trend has grown as a technology likely to grow in scope in the coming years.

In short, RaaS allows businesses to take advantage of the benefits that come with robotic automation through cloud-based subscriptions rather than expensive equipment purchases.

This technology builds on the popularity of Software-as-a-Service or SaaS solutions. The rise of SaaS has increased the importance of cloud-based subscriptions for many companies. [Read more…] about Robots-as-a-Service or Software-as-a-Service: Which Technology Trend is the Future?

Cogniteam’s Nimbus supports cloud-enabled robot management powered by Nvidia Jetson

January 17, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Cogniteam is supporting the Nvidia Jetson edge AI platform into its cloud-based robotics development and deployment platform, allowing cloud-enabled deployments to use Nvidia technology for the first time.

More customers are moving over to Nvidia’s GPU-accelerated technologies that can be developed and deployed through the cloud.

This is made possible by Nimbus’s packaging of field-tested software, such as sensors and AI capabilities, based on over a decade of Cogniteam’s work with enterprise businesses. [Read more…] about Cogniteam’s Nimbus supports cloud-enabled robot management powered by Nvidia Jetson

Learn More About Cloud Faxing Services

December 28, 2021 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Cloud computing is still a relatively new technology. Because of its comparative novelty, states are still trying to figure out how to tax transactions that occur within the cloud computing industry.

They regularly issue new policy statements, enact new legislation, and promulgate new rules regarding the taxability of cloud-based transactions, so it can be hard for the average business owner to keep up.

Modern companies that utilize cloud-based solutions must be aware of the complexity of state sales and use tax treatment. To that end, this article will offer a basic introduction to the tax treatment of the three types of cloud computing transactions. [Read more…] about Learn More About Cloud Faxing Services

Elementary Robotics unveils ‘industry’s first’ cloud-based AI camera system

February 24, 2021 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Elementary Robotics, a rapidly-growing AI vision startup, has unveiled what it claims is the first AI camera system for cloud-based inspection.

The new system, which combines software, deep learning AI, and camera systems make it “faster and easier” for manufacturers to use.

The company also appointed Monique Apter as EVP of sales and marketing and Milind Karnik as EVP of engineering. [Read more…] about Elementary Robotics unveils ‘industry’s first’ cloud-based AI camera system

Why Manufacturers Should Consider Using a Cloud-based MES Platform

January 28, 2021 by Polly Leave a Comment

Traditional manufacturing execution systems are deployed on a single machine that might be networked to a handful of terminals inside of a machine shop.

While this made sense in an era before widespread Internet adoption, it’s hopelessly dated today. Few people have the technology needed to turn their smart devices into antique telnet clients, and there are even less who would want to.

Cloud-based technology is a much better alternative, but adoption has been surprisingly slow. That’s causing many industry sectors to play a dizzyingly fast game of catch-up. [Read more…] about Why Manufacturers Should Consider Using a Cloud-based MES Platform

Traditional telco services hamstring WAN agility. Is cloud-based SD-WAN the solution?

September 23, 2019 by Liv

In a recent survey, industry insiders predicted over 80 percent of workloads will run in a public, private, or hybrid cloud by 2020.

This shift towards cloud computing is one of the key drivers of SD-WAN overtaking traditional telco services like MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) as the go-to WAN connectivity solution for enterprises.

However, enterprises also care about reliability and managed services, areas where SD-WAN solutions that only offer overlay functionality come up short. [Read more…] about Traditional telco services hamstring WAN agility. Is cloud-based SD-WAN the solution?

Upverter has upgraded its cloud-based printed circuit board design application and included an enhanced version of its so-called “Concierge”.

The PCB market is growing worldwide as more people take to designing and building their own machines using open-source hardware components.

Upverter, which was launched several years ago, has added something it calls “EE Concierge”, or Electrical Engineering Concierge Service, which essentially helps you to use the company’s application.  [Read more…] about Upverter upgrades its printed circuit board design application

Bewildered by BYOD? Confused by cloud? Here’s a simple introduction

December 14, 2016 by David Edwards

Cloud-based automation software can make BYOD a secure and practical option for businesses. This kind of capability offers a tempting possibility for many businesses, as Howard Williams, marketing director of digital engagement specialist Parker Software, explains

It might seem like they’ve been around forever, but smartphones have only been ubiquitous for the past five years.

Before that, devices such as Handspring’s innovative Palm Treo series (pictured above)  were too far ahead of their time to take off.

The same rings true for bring your own device (BYOD), a concept that has existed for years but is only now able to be securely realised.  [Read more…] about Bewildered by BYOD? Confused by cloud? Here’s a simple introduction

Honeywell says its new cloud-based IIoT service helps increase plant utilization and performance and avoid production interruptions

Honeywell UOP has launched a new software-based service designed to allow refiners and petrochemical and gas processing plants to improve performance.

Honeywell UOP’s new Connected Performance Services (CPS) business leverages the Industrial Internet of Things to tap Honeywell’s deep process knowledge, design expertise, and understanding of catalysis with next-generation software platforms from Honeywell Process Solutions, the leading provider of software-based solutions for the process industries.

Zak Alzein, vice president for CPS, says: “This cloud-enabled service makes plants smarter and more responsive.

“Problems that caused plants to be less efficient or less productive and that went undetected for weeks or months now can be resolved quickly and proactively, and decisions that used to take days now can be made in hours. For many plants, the avoidance of downtime and suboptimal performance, and better agility, can be worth millions of dollars per year.”  [Read more…] about Honeywell launches industrial internet of things service to ‘improve plant performance’
