MassRobotics partners with Abu Dhabi organization for $3 million prize competition

MassRobotics is partnering with a group from Abu Dhabi to organize another biennial edition of the MBZIRC Maritime Grand Challenge, also known as the Mohammed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge.

The organizers say it is a global competition “designed to push the boundaries of autonomous robotics” and features a total prize purse of over $3 million.

The challenge, open to universities, research centers, companies, and individual innovators, calls for collaboration between unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vehicles to perform complex navigation and manipulation tasks in a GNSS-denied environment at sea to detect unfriendly vessels and move or capture cargo. Russia’s Sber Bank establishes new science award with $820,000 prize money

Sber, Russia’s largest banking group, has created a competition to find innovative startup companies in the country, pledging to give approximately $270,000 in prize money to the winners.

It’s officially the “Year of Science and Technology” in Russia, so Sber decided to mark it by establishing the Sber Science Award, which is planned to be an annual science award to support the research and development efforts that have a considerable potential to impact the progress of science and technology.

Darpa selects eight teams for $3.5 million prize competition

Darpa has selected eight teams to compete for a prize competition in which the winner will receive $2 million, the runner-up will get $1 million, and third place will earn half a million dollars.

The Darpa Subterranean (SubT) Challenge Systems Competition Final Event will be held on September 21-23, 2021, when the teams’ robots will have to quickly navigate unfamiliar underground environments at the Louisville Mega Cavern in search of common items including backpacks, cell phones, trapped survivors, and even invisible gas.

High-precision watchmaking technology developer H2i wins grand prize in EPHJ awards

High-precision watchmaking technology company H2i has won the grand prize in the EPHJ industry awards.

EPHJ is held every year in Geneva, Switzerland, and showcases companies in the microtechnology sector, including watchmaking, jewellery-making and medtech.

Although the 2020 edition of the EPHJ Trade Show was cancelled due to the pandemic, the traditional Grand Prix des Exposants was able to go ahead as normal as a result of the many innovations received by the Jury for initial selection. Students provide fascinating glimpse into the future of car design in Magna competition

Imagination soared as students from around the world competed for the first-ever Magna Global Bold Perspective Award, presented at the Car Design News LA Forum during the LA Auto Show.

Zehao “West” Zhang, from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, won the top prize for his autonomous vehicle for urban nomads.

An accomplished panel of design industry leaders judged the 2019 competition, including Chip Foose of Foose Design, Brad Richards of Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Jay Shuster of Pixar Animation Studios, Freeman Thomas of Freeman Thomas Design and Larry Erickson from Magna. Madison College students win industrial robotics competition

Madison College students Schuyler Bostedt, Garrett Butler and Jonathan Stowell took first place in the Industrial Robotics Competition held during the Wisconsin Manufacturing and Technology Show October 8-10 in Milwaukee.

Bostedt, Butler and Stowell are enrolled in the Electromechanical Technology associate degree program.

Competition to win prestigious award for steel innovation now open

Applications are now being accepted for the Swedish Steel Prize 2019, the steel industry’s most prestigious award, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

The Swedish Steel Prize is an award for ideas and products that have an impact on future steel solutions, and it attracts competitors from across the world.
