Seaports to install almost 400,000 automated guided vehicles by 2030

The maritime industry has drastically surged its automation efforts in the wake of global seaport congestion.

In addition to solutions such as gantries, automated port gates, and stacking cranes, autonomous horizontal transport modes such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that transport containers and loads to and from ships have been the most productivity-augmenting solutions in seaports.

According to ABI Research, a technology research firm, AGV seaport deployments worldwide will have a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 26 per cent from 2022 to 2030 and exceed 370,000 global deployments by 2027. Neura Robotics raises $55 million in fresh capital

Neura Robotics, an emerging AI and robotics startup, has closed a $55 million funding round, led by European investors Lingotto, an investment management company owned by Exor, Vsquared Ventures, Primepulse and HV Capital.

Neura Robotics has risen to become a global pioneer in cognitive robotics in just three years and claims innovation leadership in the industry.

Horizon and Wind River partner to develop autonomous vehicle solutions

Wind River, a developer of software for mission-critical intelligent systems, has agreed a strategic collaboration with Horizon Robotics to advance smart driving solutions.

Horizon is a leading provider of energy-efficient computing solutions for advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) for consumer vehicles in China.

The collaboration between the two companies will enable OEMs to leverage a fully integrated ADAS hardware/software solution based on Horizon’s Journey series computing solutions and the Wind River cloud-to-edge portfolio. Sarcos and Blattner develop autonomous robotic solar construction system

Sarcos Technology and Robotics Corporation, a specialist in the design, development, and manufacture of advanced robotic systems, and Blattner Company, a provider and installer of renewable energy, have entered into a collaboration agreement.

The agreement focuses on the development and refinement of Sarcos’ autonomous mobile robotic system designed to optimize employee safety and enhance the efficiency of the installation of photovoltaic (PV) modules for utility-scale solar projects.

Outokumpu becomes ‘first’ in steel industry to use robotics in safety management

Outokumpu, a giant specialist producer of stainless steel, will start to utilize artificial intelligence and safety inspection robots to improve and digitize the company’s facilities’ health and safety monitoring.

Outokumpu recently signed a deal with a Swiss robotics company ANYbotics on autonomous robotics solutions and, in June 2023, the first ANYmal robot arrived to Outokumpu’s site in Krefeld, Germany.

Outokumpu claims this makes the company the “first in the steel industry to use robotics in safety management – supporting the vision of achieving the lowest accident frequency rate in the industry by 2025”.
