Festo unveils ‘the first pneumatic collaborative robot’

May 23, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Industrial technology and automation company Festo has unveiled what it describes as “the first pneumatic collaborative robot”, saying it marks a “new era in human-robot collaboration”

What if there was a robot that was easy to operate, did not require a safety fence and was also attractively priced? That would introduce a whole new era in human-robot collaboration. This new era is now dawning – with the world’s first pneumatic robot from Festo.

Hardly any industrial market segment will grow as rapidly over the next few years as human-robot collaboration. Cobots relieve employees of particularly strenuous or monotonous tasks, giving them new levels of freedom and making their work easier and healthier.

And no other technology has such a sensitive and flexible approach to human-robot collaboration as pneumatics. [Read more…] about Festo unveils ‘the first pneumatic collaborative robot’

Cobots and no code: Robotics for everyone

March 30, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Almost three months before the start of automatica, which takes place from June 21 to 24 at the Munich Exhibition Center, one thing is certain: never before has there been such a wide range of collaborative robots as this year. And they are easier to use than ever.

The latter also applies to industrial robots. Here, no-code robotics allows an almost playful handling of robots.

These and many other developments pursue one goal: the democratization of robotics. In the future, anyone should be able to operate robots without special knowledge. With cobots, this is already possible thanks to simple programming options. [Read more…] about Cobots and no code: Robotics for everyone

Universal Robots powers new mixed-case palletizing and piece-picking solutions at MODEX 2022

March 26, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Universal Robots, a manufacturer of collaborative robots, will show attendees at North America’s largest supply chain expo how cobots can automate new hard-to-staff palletizing and piece-picking tasks in new applications from partners including Mujin and RightHand Robotics.

1 trillion dollars. That’s the astounding figure US e-commerce will reach in 2022, up 16 percent from 2021, according to Insider Intelligence forecasts, prompting warehousing labor wages to increase four times faster than before the pandemic.

“But despite wage increases, logistics operations are still having a very hard time hiring and retaining frontline workers,” says Joe Campbell, senior manager of applications development with Universal Robots (UR). Helping robots ‘see’ by using advanced AI and video in manufacturing

January 11, 2022 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

Not long ago, a world inhabited by robots was merely a sci-fi storyline.

Today, robots have become part and parcel of many manufacturing lines. We’ve become used to seeing them assemble, pick and pack, and zip down warehouses looking for the latest item for delivery.

They have become indispensable to many organizations and individuals, where many work hand-in-hand with human colleagues. Now, they are being given the ability to see and are using video technology to be even more efficient. [Read more…] about Helping robots ‘see’ by using advanced AI and video in manufacturing
