April 19, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Despite billions in federal incentives and high-profile tariffs aimed at reshoring manufacturing, the US still can’t seem to fill its factory jobs.

While the official narrative blames skills gaps and labor shortages, the deeper story may be about cultural shifts, generational values, and the unintended consequences of financialisation. Boeing faces turbulence as China halts deliveries in retaliation for US tariffs

April 18, 2025 by Mark Allinson

Boeing, the United States’ largest exporter, is once again at the center of a geopolitical storm – this time as a casualty of the latest salvo in the US-China trade war.

Following new tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on a wide range of Chinese imports, Beijing has reportedly ordered Chinese airlines to suspend all future deliveries of Boeing aircraft.

The directive, confirmed by Bloomberg and other sources, could affect approximately 200 planes currently on order by carriers such as China Eastern and China Southern, and represents one of the most severe retaliatory measures China has taken against a major US manufacturer in recent years. Manufacturing content: Is Trump’s tariffs policy about economic justice?

April 13, 2025 by Mark Allinson

President Donald Trump is once again placing American manufacturing at the center of his economic agenda, promising to bring back industrial jobs and rebuild the nation’s productive base. His primary tool for doing so? Tariffs.

These duties on imported goods are designed to make foreign products more expensive, creating space for domestic producers to compete.

The idea is simple: if it costs more to buy a product from China or Germany, then producing it in Ohio or Michigan suddenly makes more economic sense. [Read more…] about Manufacturing content: Is Trump’s tariffs policy about economic justice?
