Interview with Clearpath Robotics co-founder Ryan Gariepy: ‘Most industries in Canada are under-automated’

June 22, 2026 by Sam Francis

Canada has long been recognized for its contributions to robotics research, producing world-class universities, pioneering robotics startups, and innovative technologies that have found applications across manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, mining, and defense.

Yet despite this strong technical foundation, many observers argue that Canada has not always translated its research strengths into widespread industrial deployment at the same pace as some other leading economies.

Few people have witnessed that evolution more closely than Ryan Gariepy, co-founder of Clearpath Robotics, one of Canada’s most successful robotics companies. [Read more…] about Interview with Clearpath Robotics co-founder Ryan Gariepy: ‘Most industries in Canada are under-automated’

Eternal.ag scales fully-autonomous harvesting robots with first customer Van Noord Growers

June 5, 2026 by Sam Francis

The German agritech startup eternal.ag has deployed its fully-autonomous greenhouse harvesting robot, Harvester, to the Dutch grower, Van Noord Growers, as part of a long-term agreement.

Van Noord Growers, located in Zeeland in the Netherlands, produces both tomatoes and cucumbers across a total 8.5-hectare site. It has been operating the Harvester robot, specialized in truss tomatoes, since September 2025 and is now set to expand its fleet to a total of three this summer following a successful initial period.

With eternal.ag’s plug and play approach, the Harvester has been integrated into Van Noord’s operations from day one. The fully-autonomous Harvester is designed to operate for up to 22 hours per day, 7 days a week, and harvests trusses using an AI layer to ensure ripeness, consistency and clean cutting. Robotiq launches AI platform to automate robotic workcell integration

June 3, 2026 by Sam Francis

Robotiq has introduced IQ, an AI-enabled platform designed to make robotic Workcell integration faster, more predictable, and easier to scale.

Enabling a much-needed shift from a manual, expert-dependent approach to automatic integration, IQ captures unstructured automation project data, coordinates engineering workflows, and helps partners generate validated workcell designs based on real customer inputs and historical deployment data from thousands of previous factory installations.

Samuel Bouchard, CEO of Robotiq, says: “Automation does not scale when integration remains manual. [Read more…] about Robotiq launches AI platform to automate robotic workcell integration

Scaling automation in contract manufacturing: Interview with Rodrigo DallOglio of Flex

June 1, 2026 by Sam Francis

As manufacturers face increasing pressure to improve productivity, quality, and resilience while managing growing product complexity, automation is becoming a central part of modern factory operations.

Technologies such as collaborative robots, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and emerging forms of physical AI are moving beyond pilot projects and into large-scale production environments.

One company at the forefront of this trend is Flex, one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers, which serves customers across industries including automotive, healthcare, industrial equipment, communications, and consumer electronics. Humanoid and Schaeffler strike deal to deploy thousands of humanoid robots in factories

May 13, 2026 by David Edwards

Humanoid, a UK-based AI and robotics company, has signed a binding, phased deployment and supply agreement with Schaeffler, a leading motion technology company, to integrate humanoid robots directly into live manufacturing operations.

The first systems go live in Germany before the end of 2026. Humanoid will also purchase actuators from Schaeffler as a preferred supplier.

The agreement is one of the largest disclosed humanoid robot rollouts ever announced and positions Humanoid, founded by Artem Sokolov in 2024, among the youngest companies to secure a large-scale contract at this level. It targets deployment of a four-digit number of wheeled units across Schaeffler’s global facilities by 2032. Most manufacturers adopting automation, but few see real results, report finds

April 9, 2026 by Sam Francis

A new report from Eclipse Automation suggests that while factory automation is now widespread across North America, only a small proportion of manufacturers are achieving meaningful outcomes from their investments.

The study, based on a survey of more than 600 executives across the automotive, medical device, and consumer-industrial sectors, found that although up to 70 percent of US manufacturers and 60 percent of Canadian firms report using some form of automation, levels of maturity and performance vary significantly.

The findings point to a growing divide between companies that are successfully translating automation into measurable returns and those that are struggling to move beyond early-stage deployments. [Read more…] about Most manufacturers adopting automation, but few see real results, report finds
