ArtiMinds boosts its robot programming solutions with Wibu-Systems security

December 3, 2019 by Sam Francis

Wibu-Systems, a security technology company, has supported the integration of its comprehensive CodeMeter licensing and security solution into ArtiMinds industrial robot programming software suite.

CodeMeter allows ArtiMinds Robotics, a German provider of sensor-based automation solutions, to protect their intellectual property while enabling them to monetize their software solutions with easy and flexible entitlement management based on different factors, such as user seats or robot-bound licenses.

ArtiMinds Robot Programming Suite combines online and offline programming with a unique approach to create complex robot programs without manually writing a single line of source code. [Read more…] about ArtiMinds boosts its robot programming solutions with Wibu-Systems security

TRAPO’s new transport shuttle brings ‘new flexibility’ to palletising

November 14, 2019 by Sam Francis

Logistics technology provider TRAPO says its new transport shuttle brings “new flexibility” to the palletising zone and warehouse.

The TRAPO Transport Shuttle, part of the company’s TTS series, transports loads of up to 2,000 kilograms, with higher load capacity available on request.

TRAPO says the TTS is based on a modular principle and can be flexibly configured: size, energy transmission and storage, drive and navigation. [Read more…] about TRAPO’s new transport shuttle brings ‘new flexibility’ to palletising

Controlling complexity: Powerful new tech tools are bringing lean manufacturing principles to life

October 7, 2019 by David Edwards

By Dan McKiernan, president of eFlex Systems

Lean manufacturing principles and practices aimed at minimizing waste and maximizing productivity, have been shaping the manufacturing sector for decades now.

The necessary end-goal for manufacturers is to ensure that products are built correctly, every time, even when changes are made in-process.

While this goal is nothing new, the rise of complexity and customization challenges presents a constant counterpressure against the continuing push for improved consistency and quality. GM confirms discussions to sell Lordstown Complex to Workhorse

May 9, 2019 by David Edwards

General Motors has confirmed that it is in discussions with Workhorse Group and an affiliated, newly formed entity to sell the company’s Lordstown Complex in Lordstown, Ohio.

The move – which was informally announced by US President Donald Trump earlier –  has the potential to bring significant production and electric vehicle assembly jobs to the plant, says GM.

Upon final agreement, the entity, led by Workhorse founder Steve Burns, would acquire the facility. Workhorse would hold a minority interest in the new entity. [Read more…] about GM confirms discussions to sell Lordstown Complex to Workhorse

B&R software better utilises the potential of robots

April 30, 2019 by Anna

B&R Automation has added new functions to its mapp Motion software package. It is now possible to represent the structure of a complex machine intuitively in the configuration.

The various subsystems of a machine can be linked together. The movements of robots can be easily synchronised with gantry systems or workpiece tables with no additional programming.

The “Frame hierarchy” function can be used to represent the actual structure of a machine. Coordinate systems can be positioned at key points, such as the tool mounting flange.
