The Shift from One-Size-Fits-All to Bespoke Systems

June 22, 2026 by Sam Francis

For anyone who has been running a business for years, they know that they were told that standard solutions were the smartest path forward!

Is this the truth, though? Businesses are told to buy the same software that everyone else is using, along with following the same processes, and make sure to fit their operations into a predetermined mold.

On the surface, this approach appears to be practical, easy to manage, and affordable. However, we must remember that industries are continuously evolving and customer expectations are continuously growing. What this means is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Human-Robot Collaboration: How Modern Workplaces Can Be Designed for Safety, Productivity, and Employee Wellbeing

June 1, 2026 by Sam Francis

Physical barriers are disappearing from the modern production floor, with the $85 billion industrial robotics market creating a shared environment where people and machinery work side by side.

Successfully managing this transition requires a deep understanding of spatial geometry, workforce psychology, and functional safety standards.

There are millions of industrial robots deployed worldwide, and each unit requires a workspace specifically engineered to balance operational speed with human safety. Perspective from Harting: The industrial reality check – why factory winners execute, not just innovate

May 22, 2026 by Sam Francis

Rodriques Johnpeter, global industry segment manager, Harting

Manufacturers are operating in a moment where disruption is the norm, not the exception. Supply chain volatility, inflationary pressure and labor constraints all collide with a parallel push to embed automation and AI into plants that were never designed for today’s technologies.

Most facilities – well over two-thirds globally – are still brownfield sites, built around legacy machines, heterogeneous controls and fragile integrations that have been patched together over decades.

These environments leave almost no room for extended downtime or wholesale rip-and-replace projects, which is where many digital transformation strategies quietly break down. [Read more…] about Perspective from Harting: The industrial reality check – why factory winners execute, not just innovate

Hexagon and Fill Maschinenbau partner to advance manufacturing autonomy using humanoids

May 15, 2026 by David Edwards

Hexagon Robotics and Fill Maschinenbau are have announced a collaboration to define how humanoids can work alongside Fill’s manufacturing solutions to increase autonomy in advanced manufacturing.

AEON, Hexagon Robotics’ multi-purpose humanoid, will be piloted on one of Fill’s client use case in Gurten, Austria, to demonstrate how it can be integrated within real manufacturing workflows and as a complement to Fill’s automation solutions.

Arnaud Robert, president of Hexagon Robotics, says: “We have focused on real-world applications from the outset, and it is encouraging to see strong interest from industry leaders such as Fill. This collaboration is an important step in validating how humanoids can increase the level of autonomy of the manufacturing processes and deliver measurable value across diverse environments. Factory Automation: Bridging Promise and Real-World Production

May 12, 2026 by David Edwards

Walk into a modern shop floor and the contrast is immediate. Bright collaborative robot arms move with practised precision next to conveyors that have been running since the 1990s.

Touchscreen dashboards glow above workstations where an operator still keeps a grease-stained notebook with the real setup parameters.

That juxtaposition is the current state of factory automation: a layered environment where each new capability has to coexist with what came before. [Read more…] about Factory Automation: Bridging Promise and Real-World Production

Most manufacturers adopting automation, but few see real results, report finds

April 9, 2026 by Sam Francis

A new report from Eclipse Automation suggests that while factory automation is now widespread across North America, only a small proportion of manufacturers are achieving meaningful outcomes from their investments.

The study, based on a survey of more than 600 executives across the automotive, medical device, and consumer-industrial sectors, found that although up to 70 percent of US manufacturers and 60 percent of Canadian firms report using some form of automation, levels of maturity and performance vary significantly.

The findings point to a growing divide between companies that are successfully translating automation into measurable returns and those that are struggling to move beyond early-stage deployments. [Read more…] about Most manufacturers adopting automation, but few see real results, report finds
