ForwardX Aiming to Deliver ‘Best-in-Class’ Autonomous Mobile Robots

January 30, 2020 by Mai Tao

By Nic Temple, Vice President of Sales for the Americas at ForwardX Robotics

Given the proliferation of warehouses, distribution centers, direct to consumer (D2C) business models, fleets of AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), questioning the validity of innovation is worthy of examination.

Unlike in prior years when attendees would walk the show floor for days, many are using the MHI MODEX app and visiting for just a single day.

For that reason, a compelling innovation from ForwardX (Booth 1207) should be the first stop for serious AMR decision-makers. [Read more…] about ForwardX Aiming to Deliver ‘Best-in-Class’ Autonomous Mobile Robots

Bosch claims ‘complete’ sensor portfolio for autonomous driving

January 6, 2020 by David Edwards

Bosch says it has now “completed” its sensor portfolio for automated driving, with long-range lidar complementing radar and cameras.

Bosch is one of the world’s leading suppliers of components for advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, which is an umbrella term referring to the autonomous functions in the newer cars on the roads today.

Example of ADAS features include automatic emergency braking, cruise control, and self-parking. But this is growing and becoming more sophisticated and integrated. [Read more…] about Bosch claims ‘complete’ sensor portfolio for autonomous driving

SICK launches its ‘most powerful and accurate’ 2D LiDAR sensor yet

December 19, 2019 by Sam Francis

SICK has launched what it describes as its “most powerful and accurate 2D LiDAR sensor yet”.

The LMS4000 is designed for materials handling and intralogistics applications, and is said to maintain its high degrees of accuracy and power even at high speeds, in low ambient light or when goods, packages or parcels are matt black or glossy.

SICK says its LMS4000 2D LiDAR Sensor’s “exceptionally high” laser scanning frequency helps to produce more than half a million measurement points per second to calculate the position, shape, volume or surface quality of goods, packages or components over a wide depth of field, and at ranges up to 3 metres. Veo Robotics could make all industrial robots collaborative

April 15, 2019 by Sam Francis

veo robotics montage

Traditional industrial robots tend to be very large and potentially dangerous, which is why they tend to be caged off and kept separate from human workers.

But a new company called Veo Robotics says it has the technology to transform traditional industrial robotic arms into safe machines that humans can work alongside, within close proximity.

Veo’s solution could make every industrial robot a collaborative robot. The term “collaborative” is recognized by international standards organizations and usually applies to much smaller, newer types of robots which are specifically designed to safe for humans to work with.  [Read more…] about Veo Robotics could make all industrial robots collaborative

Lumotive launches new LiDAR to enable autonomous vehicles

March 21, 2019 by Sam Francis

lumotive Beam steering chip still v1 copy

Lumotive, the Bill Gates-funded startup developing LiDAR systems for autonomous vehicles, has launched a beam-steering technology which it claims will “significantly improve” the performance, reliability and cost of LiDAR systems for the emerging self-driving car industry.

Initially targeting the robo-taxi market, Lumotive’s patented system uses liquid crystal metasurfaces (LCM) and silicon fabrication to achieve “unmatched levels” of manufacturing efficiency while simultaneously delivering unprecedented range, resolution and frame rate.

Dr William Colleran, Lumotive co-founder and CEO, says: “Lumotive’s solution is ideal for automakers and Tier-1s seeking safer yet more cost-effective perception solutions for their vehicles.  [Read more…] about Lumotive launches new LiDAR to enable autonomous vehicles
