Universal Robots reaches 1,000 employees

November 15, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Seventeen years after it was founded by three visionary young researchers in a basement, Universal Robots has just reached a 1,000-employee milestone.

10th November, Odense, Denmark. Universal Robots, the biggest company in a fast-growing Danish robotics hub, has become the cluster’s first organisation to reach 1,000 employees – one of only a few Danish companies founded in this millennium to hit this milestone.

Since its first collaborative robot (cobot) was launched in 2008, Universal Robots has grown to be a global market leader in cobots with offices in more than 20 countries worldwide. [Read more…] about Universal Robots reaches 1,000 employees

300,000 tons in carbon emissions ‘could be saved by autonomous oil and gas operations’

November 14, 2022 by Mark Allinson

ABB has published another of its Energy Transition Equation reports that shows how industrial customers can reduce carbon emissions and manage the energy transition for a more sustainable future.

Based on nine months of research and modelling, the report highlights how early adoption and integration of automation, digitalization, and electrification technologies to enable autonomous operations can deliver savings of over 300,000 tons of carbon emissions per annum for offshore sites (approximately 25 percent reduction).

This is the equivalent of removing 150,000 combustion cars from the road and is the same volume of CO2 responsible for five million tons of glacier mass lost each year. [Read more…] about 300,000 tons in carbon emissions ‘could be saved by autonomous oil and gas operations’

Rockwell Automation and Comau partner to showcase robot control solutions at Automation Fair

November 14, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Since launching their collaboration in 2021, Comau and Rockwell Automation have been jointly working to leverage the power of robotic solutions to help businesses increase the speed of innovation and maximize their manufacturing efficiencies.

Now, Comau will join Rockwell Automation at the 31st annual Automation Fair, November 16-17 in Chicago, Illinois (booth #1135) to showcase the benefits of the full integration of Comau’s articulated robots with the unified robot control platform by Rockwell Automation.

Integrating Rockwell Automation components and Comau’s robots, using one PLC for controlling both, eliminates the need for additional robot programming skills, required by other robot manufacturers. Ritsumeikan University develops ‘soft microfingers’ for robots

November 14, 2022 by Mai Tao

Ritsumeikan University researchers develop a soft robotic microfinger that enables interaction with insects through tactile sensing

Human-robot interactions not only allow robots to interact with humans but also with the environment. Microrobots, for instance, can interact with insects and measure the force exerted by them during flight or walking.

However, this interaction is not direct, with the microrobots measuring insect behavior primarily. Now, researchers from Japan have developed a soft micro-robotic finger that allows humans to directly interact with insects. This could enable human-environment interaction at previously inaccessible scales.

Humans have always been fascinated by scales different than theirs, from giant objects such as stars, planets and galaxies, to the world of the tiny: insects, bacteria, viruses and other microscopic objects. While the microscope allows us to view and observe the microscopic world, it is still difficult to interact with it directly. What Impact Does Artificial Intelligence Have on VPN Technology?

November 12, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Artificial intelligence is no longer the sole domain of science fiction. Machine learning can be found in your cell phone, car, the internet, and the offline world. Machine learning looks for patterns to build the next generation of AI.

Any correct guesses are then recorded. This replication process is repeated until the algorithm is self-sufficient. However, there are drawbacks to this form of educational technology, the most obvious of which are our privacy, security, and individuality.

Artificial intelligence can gather information invisibly and access individuals’ private data worldwide. The wealthy and powerful can exploit AI. Currently, it assists governments in developing innovative strategies for censoring online information. [Read more…] about What Impact Does Artificial Intelligence Have on VPN Technology?

Augmentus expands US presence to meet growing demand for easy Scan and Plan robot programming

November 7, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Augmentus will be exhibiting at the Rockwell Automation Fair in Chicago on 16-17 November 2022 as part of its ongoing partnership with Rockwell Automation.

Conventional robot programming is highly difficult and heavily fragmented with the use of proprietary programming languages and extensive training being the industry norm.

As a result, 70 percent of the lifetime costs of robot ownership are software and programming related, and a compounding cost is involved in automating high-mix production environments. [Read more…] about Augmentus expands US presence to meet growing demand for easy Scan and Plan robot programming

How useful can Tesla’s ‘overhyped’ humanoid robot be?

November 4, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Research company IDTechEx has been analyzing how useful Tesla’s “overhyped” humanoid robot could be when it is eventually launched. For example, “Will it really be able to serve people?”, asks the analyst.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently unveiled its humanoid robot “Optimus” at the electric vehicle maker’s “AI Day” event. Musk said that a robot business will be worth more than its cars, and he hopes to expand Tesla beyond an electric vehicle manufacturer.

At the show, the Tesla Bot was able to perform a variety of tasks, including watering plants, dancing, and moving metal bars in the automaker’s factory. [Read more…] about How useful can Tesla’s ‘overhyped’ humanoid robot be?
