Einride and UAE to introduce Middle East’s largest autonomous and electric fleet

August 6, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Einride, a freight mobility company that provides digital, electric and autonomous technology, is launching a collaboration with the UAE Government to “fast track the region to sustainable shipping”.

The signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will look to deploy Einride’s ecosystem, including electric and autonomous vehicles, charging infrastructure and transforming technology that unlocks digital, electric and autonomous solutions at scale throughout the Falcon Rise grid.

Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride, says: “This collaboration gets to the core of what Einride provides – the transformation to effective and sustainable shipping that is fully electric. [Read more…] about Einride and UAE to introduce Middle East’s largest autonomous and electric fleet

Can robotics improve the environment?

May 3, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Although conversations about the impact of robots on society more often than not focus on the negative aspects of automation – such as the number of jobs that might be threatened by the rise of AI and robotics – there is also a very real possibility that new technologies like robots can be used to help tackle some of the world’s most pressing problems.

Nowhere is this possibility truer than in relation to climate change, which is undoubtedly the most pressing problem of our time. But what exactly is the scope of the environmental problem we face and how can robots be used to tackle it? [Read more…] about Can robotics improve the environment?

ExRobotics develops ‘new and improved’ version of its inspection robot

April 8, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

ExRobotics has developed a “new and improved” version of its ATEX-certified inspection robot, together with the help of Shell Pernis and DOW Terneuzen.

ExRobotics says “many companies” have adopted this way of working, and as a result, there are now 30 of its robots operating worldwide on a daily basis.

Why do industrial companies send employees into potentially hazardous environments (ATEX Zone 1 environments) when robots could do some of the work? Several studies have shown that inspection of hazardous environments by robots is the solution to preventing human injury during inspection. Robots perform inspections more accurately, more productively and more cost-effectively than humans. [Read more…] about ExRobotics develops ‘new and improved’ version of its inspection robot

Global cement producer Votorantim Cimentos achieves multi-site digitalization with ABB

February 9, 2023 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

ABB has delivered advanced automation and digital technologies to global building materials and sustainable solutions company Votorantim Cimentos, as it embraces Industry 4.0 in cement to simultaneously optimize production and decarbonize operations.

Industrial companies, including Votorantim Cimentos Europe, Asia and Africa Region (VCEAA) – which has the worldwide capacity to produce 55.7 million tons of cement per annum, are ramping up their efforts to ensure lower emissions as governments and international organizations push for net-zero emissions by 2030.

Digital solutions ABB Ability Expert Optimizer and ABB Ability Knowledge Manager have recently been installed in the customer’s plants in Spain, Turkey, Tunisia and Morocco with proven impacts for enhanced productivity, streamlined processes, reduced maintenance and energy savings. Autonomous trucking company Einride launches in Benelux with brewing giant AB InBev

December 4, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

Einride, the freight mobility technology company that provides digital, electric, and autonomous shipping, has launched in Benelux in partnership with one of the world’s leading brewers, AB InBev.

With Einride’s fully electric fleet of connected, heavy duty trucks the partnership is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 500 tonnes annually.

Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride, says: “Benelux is the beating heart of Europe and the place to drive change across the European Union. [Read more…] about Autonomous trucking company Einride launches in Benelux with brewing giant AB InBev

300,000 tons in carbon emissions ‘could be saved by autonomous oil and gas operations’

November 14, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

ABB has published another of its Energy Transition Equation reports that shows how industrial customers can reduce carbon emissions and manage the energy transition for a more sustainable future.

Based on nine months of research and modelling, the report highlights how early adoption and integration of automation, digitalization, and electrification technologies to enable autonomous operations can deliver savings of over 300,000 tons of carbon emissions per annum for offshore sites (approximately 25 percent reduction).

This is the equivalent of removing 150,000 combustion cars from the road and is the same volume of CO2 responsible for five million tons of glacier mass lost each year. [Read more…] about 300,000 tons in carbon emissions ‘could be saved by autonomous oil and gas operations’

The state of Michigan has announced that three companies will receive $260,000 in total funding through the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform (MMFP) to test and deploy mobility projects across the state.

With these grants, Michigan will enable new mobility solutions that help address challenges related to school bus emissions, decaying mobility infrastructure and last-mile deliveries, all while reducing on-road miles, emissions, traffic, accidents and noise.

Lt Governor Garlin Gilchrist II says: “Shaping the next generation of mobility solutions means developing more than just automobiles. It means future-proofing our roads and bridges, as well as ensuring that our alternate and last-mile mobility solutions can support the areas where we live, work, visit and play. Kuehne+Nagel shows off solar-powered delivery trucks

September 1, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

As part of the goal to create more sustainable supply chain solutions, Kuehne+Nagel is reducing CO2 emissions in the Netherlands with photovoltaics – solar panels – installed on top of trucks.

The solar panels reduce fuel consumption by up to 1.200 litres per year, per vehicle. This reduces a truck’s overall fuel consumption by up to 6 percent, lowering CO2 emission per truck by 3.8 tonnes on an annual basis.

Traditionally, trucks consume a large amount of electricity which is generated by the alternator. The photovoltaics now supply the trucks with solar electricity. When driving, there is a decreased load on the engine which lowers fuel consumption. [Read more…] about Kuehne+Nagel shows off solar-powered delivery trucks

Nippon Express launches eco-friendly delivery service in Venice using hydrogen-powered boats

September 1, 2022 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

Nippon Express Italia has launched an eco-friendly delivery service in Venice, Italy that uses hydrogen-powered boats.

The European Union has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent from 1990 levels no later than 2030, and companies operating within the EU are accelerating their de-carbonization efforts.

To realize its long-term vision of becoming a “logistics company with a strong presence in the global market”, the Nippon Express Group has made addressing climate change one of its material issues and is working to reduce CO2 emissions in its operations as well as to create products and services that help its customers reduce their own CO2 emissions.
