Veo Robotics could make all industrial robots collaborative

Traditional industrial robots tend to be very large and potentially dangerous, which is why they tend to be caged off and kept separate from human workers.

But a new company called Veo Robotics says it has the technology to transform traditional industrial robotic arms into safe machines that humans can work alongside, within close proximity.

Veo’s solution could make every industrial robot a collaborative robot. Siemens leads industry to the next level of digital transformation

At Hannover Messe, Siemens is presenting numerous additions to its Digital Enterprise portfolio for the next level of digital transformation in the discrete and process industries.

At the centre of its booth, Siemens is using a model for the automotive industry to show how the unique portfolio of industrial software and automation technology seamlessly connects the virtual and real worlds.

Using cloud and Edge-based data analyses together with other future-oriented technologies, such as additive manufacturing and autonomous manufacturing systems, creates new possibilities in the areas of efficiency and flexibility.

Volkswagen chooses Siemens for its industrial cloud

Siemens technology group is to be the integration partner for the Volkswagen Industrial Cloud.

Siemens will play a key role in ensuring that machinery and equipment of different manufacturers at the 122 Volkswagen plants are networked efficiently in the cloud.

The resulting data transparency and analysis will lay the technological foundations for productivity improvements at Volkswagen plants.

Arrow Electronics joins Siemens’ MindSphere Partner Program

Global technology provider Arrow Electronics has joined the MindSphere Partner Program, Siemens’ program for industrial IoT solution and technology providers.

MindSphere is the cloud-based, open IoT operating system from Siemens that connects products, plants, systems and machines, enabling businesses to harness data generated by the IoT with advanced analytics.

As a MindSphere Platinum Partner, Arrow has multiple technical staff trained by Siemens through the MindSphere technical curriculum, a variety of MindSphere applications in development, and a joint go-to-market agreement.

Siemens tops European patent application rankings

Siemens submitted more patent applications than any other company in Europe in 2018, thus advancing to first place in the European Patent Office’s application rankings.

With 2,493 patent applications, Siemens relegated last year’s leader, Huawei, to second place, followed by Samsung and LG. In 2017, Siemens had taken second place. The last time the company was ranked No. 1 in Europe was in 2011.

More than 25 percent of the patents are in the areas of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation, where Siemens submitted considerably more applications for intellectual property rights than in the prior year.

Siemens becomes ‘world’s first’ to gain new TÜV SÜD certification

Siemens is the world’s first company to gain TÜV SÜD certification for the secure system integration of process automation and drive solutions in compliance with the international IEC 62443-2-4 standards.

The integration projects, verified on the basis of two standard solutions in the oil & gas processing industry and in a waste incineration plant, have been certified in conformity with IEC 62443-2-4 and -3-3 and were implemented using the Simatic PCS 7 process control system.

Siemens and HP’s Aruba partner on integrated networks

Siemens and Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, have announced a strategic partnership focused on bridging the Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) worlds.

Siemens is as a provider of industrial Ethernet network components and Aruba offers wired and wireless LAN infrastructure.

Digitisation, Industrie 4.0 and Industrial IoT are raising new challenges because now data increasingly must cross the boundary separating OT and IT.

Siemens acquires automotive electrical systems design firm Comsa

Siemens has acquired Comsa Computer und Software GmbH, a Munich-based company which develops software for electrical systems design and wire harness engineering.

Its LDorado suite is the leader in automotive harness design and engineering software in Germany, reflecting deep local expertise and market presence with a well-established product portfolio and strong emphasis on standards.

The Comsa team and technology will join the Mentor business, part of Siemens PLM Software, where it will add key harness engineering and design data analytics capabilities to the Siemens product range.

Siemens inaugurates new building technologies headquarters in Switzerland

Siemens has inaugurated its new campus in Zug, Switzerland last week. The Siemens Zug campus features a new office building with 1,000 workspaces and a newly constructed production building.

The investment volume for new buildings, renovations and related measures amounts to $250 million.

The campus is the international headquarters of the Siemens Building Technologies Division, which has 29,000 employees. Last year it posted worldwide sales of $7.5 billion. Siemens showcases sector-specific solutions and future technologies for Industry 4.0
