Olis Robotics secures $4 million funding to meet ‘surging demand’ for remote robot management

Olis Robotics, specialists in remote monitoring, control, and error recovery technology for industrial robots, has raised $4.1 million funding in a round led by PSL Ventures.

Additional investors include Tectonic Ventures, Ubiquity Ventures, as well as several prominent strategic angel investors, including robotics pioneer Daniel Theobald, the president and co-founder of MassRobotics and founder and chairman of Vecna Robotics.

By safely enabling remote monitoring, control, and troubleshooting of industrial robots, Olis Robotics’ unique “Olis Connect” system significantly improves Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), effectively addressing costly robot downtime. Kiwibot secures $10 million in new funding

Kiwibot, a robotic last-mile delivery service that has completed over 250,000 food deliveries with robots, has agreed what it describes as a “tailor-made” $10 million financing partnership with asset financing group kineo finance.

The agreement will help Kiwibot with its manufacturing and scaling needs, growing its robotic fleet and disrupting the delivery-as-a-service (DaaS) industry.

By removing the working capital barrier, this partnership will accelerate Kiwibot’s growth in the DaaS industry. kineo finance provides smart asset financing for startups while limiting dilution, so they can focus on growing the business. Research shows growing confidence among consumers and business leaders that robots handle finance tasks better than people

2020 has changed our relationship with money and people now trust robots more than themselves to manage their finances, according to a new study by Oracle and personal finance expert Farnoosh Torabi.

The study of more than 9,000 consumers and business leaders in 14 countries found that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased financial anxiety, sadness, and fear among people around the world and has changed who and what we trust to manage our finances.

Universal Robots partners with DLL to launch financial services leasing program

Universal Robots, the largest collaborative robot manufacturer in the world, has launched a new cobot leasing program in partnership with DLL, a global vendor finance company.

The new agreement enables all manufacturers, regardless of size or capital equipment budgets, to reap the benefits of automation without worrying about cash flow and seasonal fluctuations.

Hitachi delivers ‘world’s fastest’ elevator to skyscraper

Hitachi has delivered its elevator system to Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, a skyscraper complex building in Guangzhou, China.

The building has the Guinness World Records title as having the world’s fastest elevator. The presentation ceremony for the award of the official certificate was held recently.

Robotic toymaker Anki to close down

Anki, a startup company which made robotic toy cars and trucks, is planning to close its doors, according to a report on the Recode website.

The company had raised more than $200 million in funding for the venture, and generated $100 million in revenue in 2017, but is now making all of its 200 employees redundant.

In a statement to Recode, the company says that it had been left “without significant funding” which meant it could not finance its hardware and software development plans going forward.

Canonical releases new version of Ubuntu operating system

Canonical has launched a new version of the Ubuntu computer operating system, which is increasingly popular in industrial devices and networks.

The company says the updated version, Ubuntu 19.04, provides the necessary tools for open infrastructure applications, includes a developer desktop, internet of things functionality, and cloud to edge software distribution.

Mark Shuttleworth, CEO of Canonical, says: “The open-source-first on Ubuntu movement in telco, finance, and media has spread to other sectors.

“From the public cloud to the private data center to the edge appliance or cluster, open source has become the reference for efficiency and innovation.

“Ubuntu 19.04 includes the leading projects to underpin that transition, and the developer tooling to accelerate the applications for those domains.”
