Cleveron, an Estonian-based technology company, partnered with LRK Driving School to conduct what they say are “the world’s first driving exams with an unmanned semi-autonomous car”.
The exams were carried out with Cleveron’s last-mile delivery vehicle Cleveron 701. All four Cleveron specialists passed the exam and received the world’s first tele-operated vehicle certificates.
To receive the certificate, drivers first had to undergo special tele-operated vehicle training, followed by field exercises and city driving, in accordance with the Estonian examination standards. Refraction AI, the robotics startup and creator of the REV-1 autonomous delivery robot, has raised $4.2 million in new seed funding led by Pillar VC.
The company says the capital will be used for customer acquisition, geographic expansion and product development.

Kia is planning to develop a variety of technologies including autonomous vehicles for last-mile delivery in Singapore.
The company has begun to lay the groundwork for its “Purpose Built Vehicle” (PBV) business, partnering with cold chain start-up S.lab Asia to break into Singapore’s last-mile delivery market.

XPO Logistics, the largest last-mile provider for heavy goods in North America, has announced the launch of extensive last mile capabilities on its XPO Connect digital freight marketplace.
The company’s last mile business unit specialises in the delivery of heavy goods, many of which require assembly and installation inside the home.
In 2018, XPO arranged approximately 40,000 last mile deliveries per day on average.
