Motion capture is guiding the next generation of extraterrestrial robots

January 25, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

“How do we build robots that can optimally explore space?” is the core question behind Dr Frances Zhu’s research at the University of Hawai’i. One part of the answer is, “with motion capture”.

“It is my hope that my research contributes to the way extraterrestrial robots move and make decisions on other planets,” explains Zhu (main image), an assistant researcher and deputy director at the University’s Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology.

That research is in its early stages, but NASA has seen the value in it and awarded Zhu an EPSCoR grant by the name “Autonomous Rover Operations for Planetary Surface Exploration using Machine Learning Algorithms”. Geek+ smart warehouses break Single’s Day record with 8 million orders delivered in 72 hours

November 22, 2019 by Mai Tao Leave a Comment

Geek+ says it implemented and completed large-scale scheduling of more than 4,000 robots in its smart warehouses during this year’s 11.11 Singles’ Day shopping festival.

China’s largest smart warehouse network processed a record 8 million orders in 72 hours.

Geek+ says “the successful deployment is a fantastic validation of the strength of the robotics-as-a-service business model” and the flexibility and efficiency of smart warehouses during periods of peak orders, including the ultimate challenge of the world’s largest shopping festival. Organisers of watchmaking event EPHJ report increased visitors and ‘excellent feedback’

July 12, 2019 by David Edwards

Against the backdrop of a thriving watchmaking industry, the 18th EPHJ Trade Show ended recently with “really good news” on visitor numbers, which were slightly up, and positive feedback from the 820 exhibitor companies.

After four busy days, the 820 exhibitors and the organisers left the EPHJ Trade Show with a smile on their faces.

Alexandre Catton, director of EPHJ, says: “This 18th show was a continuation of previous versions with improvements in many areas, especially the number of visitors, which was up more than 4 per cent, and the satisfaction of the exhibitors.” [Read more…] about Organisers of watchmaking event EPHJ report increased visitors and ‘excellent feedback’
