Universal Robots looks for opportunities created by Malaysia’s Industry4WRD program

May 16, 2019 by Mai Tao

Universal Robots, a collaborative robots maker, has identified Malaysia as a key growth market in line with the country’s increased focus on automation and robotics, as outlined in its national policy on Industry 4.0, called “Industry4WRD”, to transform its manufacturing sector.

The manufacturing sector, comprising 98.5 percent of Malaysian SMEs, serves as a major contributor to the country’s economy. In 2018, the sector contributed 22.4 percent of GDP, roughly RM 325 billion.

Sakari Kuikka, general manager, Southeast Asia and Oceania at UR, says: “Malaysia deployed just 45 units of industrial robots per 10,000 employees in 2017, almost 50 percent below the global average of 85 units. April 30, 2019 by Anna

Alstom‘s Le Creusot site in France has unveiled the highest-capacity welding robot in the railway sector, developed and manufactured by its supplier Farman, a subsidiary of the Galilé group, which specialises in robotic installations.

This investment in innovation of over a million euros is aligned with the development strategy for the Alstom site in Le Creusot, the group’s centre of excellence for bogie design and production.

The site’s expertise is deployed in major rail projects such as the new-generation RER and Avelia Horizon, the fifth generation of TGV.

Isra Vision launches ‘quad-camera sensor solution’ for bin picking

April 26, 2019 by David Edwards

Isra Vision has launched what it says is a “quad-camera sensor solution” for bin picking.

Robot-guided bin picking is significantly increasing the level of automation in industrial production, while also enabling maximum flexibility.

That is why another large German supplier in the automotive sector has now chosen the PowerPick3D bin picking system. [Read more…] about Isra Vision launches ‘quad-camera sensor solution’ for bin picking

Opinion: Robotic end-of-arm tools are shaping the manufacturing industry

April 17, 2019 by Sam Francis

OnRobot/Optoforce konference

By Thomas Knudsen, general manager Northern Europe, OnRobot

Within a diverse and innovative sector like the manufacturing industry, flexibility is key.

Robotics, a key enabler of this, has already taken this industry by storm, allowing factories worldwide to automate more and more tasks, cutting costs and increasing productivity.

However, simple automation is no longer enough. Manufacturers now require unique automation solutions for each specific production environment, to tackle the talent shortage they are facing, but can’t redesign facilities for every different process and application.  [Read more…] about Opinion: Robotic end-of-arm tools are shaping the manufacturing industry

The US manufacturing sector faces numerous possible pitfalls and some risk of severe declines, according to a new report by Creditsafe USA.

The in-depth analysis of the US manufacturing industry says that, despite recent overall consistent performance, there are “several areas of concern” across the entire sector. In particular, the rate of bankruptcy signaling the possibility of an industry slowdown.

With the manufacturing industry being the largest area of employment in the US, any decline could have a “catastrophic effect” on the overall US economy, says Creditsafe.  [Read more…] about US manufacturing faces possible pitfalls and severe declines, says report

Growing demand for consumer robots will lead to global spending on robots increasing to $87 billion by 2025, says BCG

June 21, 2017 by Sam Francis

The global market for robotics is growing far faster than expected and is projected to reach $87 billion by 2025, according to new research by the Boston Consulting Group.

Updating its previous estimate of $67 billion from three years ago, the management consulting firm recently revised its forecast sharply higher, mostly because of soaring consumer demand.

In a new paper released today, Gaining Robotics Advantage, BCG projects an additional $14 billion of growth in the consumer sector to $23 billion, an increase of 156 per cent over its earlier estimate.  [Read more…] about Growing demand for consumer robots will lead to global spending on robots increasing to $87 billion by 2025, says BCG

Hannover Messe: And Polska has won it!

January 10, 2017 by Mark Allinson

Poland is this year’s partner country for Hannover Messe, the world’s most influential industrial trade show.

Last year’s partner country was USA, and President Barack Obama was the guest of honour. The year before that, it was India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, welcomed as usual by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

So, following on from the one of the world’s most populous nations, and then the world’s most powerful, Poland and its leaders have a lot to live up to. [Read more…] about Hannover Messe: And Polska has won it!

Manufacturing: Apple considers making in India

December 21, 2016 by David Edwards

apple india

lockIndia’s significant presence at Hannover Messe in 2015 signalled the country’s renewed determination to reinvigorate its manufacturing base. And in the last couple of years, it has made significant progress with its ambitions.

The government has been pouring money into the manufacturing sector, and encouraging foreign direct investment through a range of incentives, not least of which is more attention and action to facilitate the sector’s development through the upgrading of infrastructure and business practices.

One example of the country’s technological ambition is the KEF Industrial Park, which is shown in the video above. As one observer put it: “It is a mind-blowing set-up and only believable if you see it. They make everything at the factory. Even the bathrooms and rooms, and then transport it by road to the site. The interiors and wirings are done at the site.  [Read more…] about Manufacturing: Apple considers making in India

Manufacturing in the USA: The same story told from many angles

October 21, 2016 by David Edwards

Most stories have at least two sides, usually one negative and one positive, depending on your point of view or what aspect of the story you choose to highlight.

So, for example, if you read CNN you will see mentions of “record” levels of business, such as in the sectors of automaking and aerospace.

“US aircraft production is at a record high and well ahead of the rest of the world,” says CNN, adding that the auto industry is “within 7 per cent of record levels, making 12 million cars and trucks a year”.  [Read more…] about Manufacturing in the USA: The same story told from many angles
