Universal Robots ‘future-proofs’ production processes at Vietnamese manufacturer with collaborative robots

Universal Robots has helped Vietnam-based Vinacomin Motor Industry Joint Stock Company “future-proof” its production processes with collaborative robots.

VMIC is a subsidiary of the Vinacomin Group, a state-owned coal and mining giant.

VMIC, one of the first state-owned manufacturers to deploy cobots, has seen productivity increase two to three times, with improved product quality, leading to a 50 to 60 percent rise in orders. Universal Robots looks for opportunities created by Malaysia’s Industry4WRD program

Universal Robots, a collaborative robots maker, has identified Malaysia as a key growth market in line with the country’s increased focus on automation and robotics, as outlined in its national policy on Industry 4.0, called “Industry4WRD”, to transform its manufacturing sector.

The manufacturing sector, comprising 98.5 percent of Malaysian SMEs, serves as a major contributor to the country’s economy. In 2018, the sector contributed 22.4 percent of GDP, roughly RM 325 billion.

Sakari Kuikka, general manager, Southeast Asia and Oceania at UR, says: “Malaysia deployed just 45 units of industrial robots per 10,000 employees in 2017, almost 50 percent below the global average of 85 units. Swisslog wins major order from Ikea in Malaysia

Swisslog, a warehouse automation company, has received a major order from Ikea Supply in Malaysia.

The contract is valued at approximately €43 million.

The project comprises of 215,000 pallet locations of clad-rack, 21 warehouse pallet stacker cranes Vectura, the pallet conveyor system ProMove, the electric Monorail System and the core of the system, the Swisslog software SynQ.

Nippon Express builds new warehouse in Malaysia

Nippon Express is building a new warehouse in Malaysia.

The company held a groundbreaking ceremony recently for a new warehouse to be built in the Shah Alam Industrial Park in Selangor Province.

Universal Robots strengthens its partner network in Malaysia

Universal Robots (UR) is strengthening its partner network in Malaysia with four new partners: Bizit Systems in Johor, Multitrade Asiapac and Servo Dynamics in Penang, and T. E. M. Engineering in the Klang Valley.

They join a growing network of UR channel partners in Southeast Asia to support increasing demand for collaborative robots (cobots) in the region.

In Malaysia, cobots are deployed in industries such as electronics, automotive, semiconductor, furniture and consumer products.

Country insight: Robotics and automation set to make in-roads into Malaysian logistics industry

Malaysia is a southeast Asian country with a population of about 32 million, and a diverse ethnic mix which includes 50 per cent Malays, 23 per cent Chinese and 12 per cent “indigenous”, along with 7 per cent Indians and 9 per cent “others”, according to the most recent study. 

Its location and geography – with thousands of miles of coastline and almost 30 ports – make Malaysia an ideal logistics hub for the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The largest port in the country is said to be Port Klang, which used to be called Pelabuhan Swettenham. South-east Asian nations partner to create robotics ecosystem

Several south-eastern Asian nations have entered into a partnership to create what’s being described as a “robotics ecosystem” for the region. 

The basic idea is to increase the use of robotics, automation, and related technologies to improve their industrial sector.
