Deloitte report says ‘physical AI’ era has begun as intelligent robots reshape industry

November 5, 2025 by Sam Francis

Deloitte has published a new report arguing that the world is entering the era of “physical AI” – intelligent robots capable of perceiving, reasoning, and acting in the physical world – and says the technology is set to reshape manufacturing, construction, logistics, and other industrial sectors.

The report, How robotics and physical AI are reshaping industries and society, describes a “pivotal moment” driven by three converging forces: rapid advances in AI models, falling hardware costs, and deepening labour shortages.

Deloitte says physical AI systems represent the next step beyond traditional automation, enabling machines to “autonomously interact with, interpret, and make decisions within physical environments, often in real time and with real-world feedback loops”. Waabi and Volvo partner to ‘demonstrate the future of autonomous trucking’

October 30, 2025 by Sam Francis

Waabi, a developer of physical AI and driverless trucks, and Volvo Autonomous Solutions have reached a “major milestone” in autonomous trucking by successfully integrating the Waabi Driver with the Volvo VNL Autonomous.

This joint achievement underscores the significant progress both companies are making together in advancing autonomous freight.

Raquel Urtasun, founder and CEO of Waabi, says: “The future of autonomous trucking hinges on three critical areas: autonomous technology that is safe, scalable, and can deliver on customer needs; hardware that is purpose-built for autonomous operations from the ground up; and a commercial deployment model that solves problems in the supply chain without added friction. Richtech Robotics unveils its first humanoid robot for ‘real-world work’

October 28, 2025 by Sam Francis

Richtech Robotics, a US-based provider of AI-driven robotics solutions, has unveiled Dex, the company’s first mobile humanoid robot for industrial use.

Accelerated by the Nvidia Jetson Thor, Dex is capable of operating in dynamic environments, adapt with real time reasoning, and perform complex tasks with detailed precision, all while operating for a full workday on a single charge.

Richtech is using Nvidia technology to accelerate Dex’s training across diverse industrial and commercial contexts.
By combining real-world data with Nvidia Isaac Sim, an open, reference robotics simulation framework, Dex is able to learn tasks virtually at an exponential rate, and implement behaviors into a live industrial environment. Video: Figure 03 shows what humanoid robots can really do

October 28, 2025 by Sam Francis

Figure AI has released a new video (see below) showcasing its third-generation humanoid robot, the Figure 03, performing a range of everyday tasks that demonstrate just how far the company has come in bridging the gap between research and reality.

In the six-minute video, the robot folds clothes, loads and operates a washing machine, clears dishes from a coffee table, and rinses them before loading a dishwasher.

It’s also shown operating a reception desk, carrying boxes, and even tossing a ball for a dog to chase – a subtle but striking moment that captures how naturally the machine moves within familiar environments. [Read more…] about Video: Figure 03 shows what humanoid robots can really do

Locus Robotics reports ‘record growth achieving 6 billion picks in fastest time yet’

October 23, 2025 by Sam Francis

Locus Robotics, a provider of AI-driven, mobile warehouse automation, has announced its “strongest growth” over the past two quarters, reflecting accelerating industry adoption of Physical AI, seamlessly fusing intelligent robotics and real-world execution.

Driven by surging implementations and faster time-to-value for customers, Locus Robotics says it recently “surpassed 6 billion picks worldwide”, with the last billion in just 24 weeks – the fastest pace in its history.

Rick Faulk, CEO of Locus Robotics, says: “Our growth is driven by our customers’ success. Retailers, 3PLs, and healthcare providers are seeing measurable impact faster than ever – scaling productivity in weeks, not months. Interview with Locus Robotics software leader: ‘AI delivers clear advantages over generic foundational models’

October 16, 2025 by Sam Francis

Locus Robotics has become one of the defining companies in warehouse automation, best known for its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that work alongside people in logistics centers around the world.

But increasingly, the company’s real differentiator may lie not in the hardware itself – which many would argue has reached near-optimal design for its purpose – but in the intelligence that drives it.

Hamid Montazeri, senior vice president of software and AI at Locus Robotics, leads the team responsible for that intelligence. His work focuses on developing what he calls “physical AI” – domain-specific artificial intelligence designed to operate in the unpredictable, fast-moving environment of a warehouse. Is ABB making a mistake selling its robotics division?

October 9, 2025 by Mai Tao

ABB’s decision to sell its robotics business to SoftBank for $5.4 billion raises a fundamental question: why exit one of the few industrial sectors almost universally expected to grow?

The company had previously considered spinning off the division as a standalone business but ultimately opted for a clean sale.

The move may provide ABB with capital to reinvest in its more profitable electrification and automation units, but it also means surrendering a foothold in a market with long-term potential. [Read more…] about Is ABB making a mistake selling its robotics division?
