Hillcrest Labs and LG renew licence for handheld motion control technology

Sensor supplier Hillcrest Labs and LG Electronics have renewed their licence agreement for handheld motion control technology.

LG, one of the world’s leading suppliers of smart TVs, licenses Hillcrest Labs’ point-and-click remote control technology which uses motion control features of LG Magic Remote.

InterDigital, a mobile technology research and development company, and parent company of Hillcrest Labs, says LG Electronics has extended its license to use Hillcrest Labs’ Freespace MotionEngine software in its Smart TVs for an additional three years.  [Read more…] about Hillcrest Labs and LG renew licence for handheld motion control technology

LG Electronics to show off its new exoskeleton or ‘wearable robot’

Electronics giant LG is planning to showcase its new exoskeleton or, as the company calls it, its “wearable robot” at IFA, a consumer electronics event in Germany. 

The powered suit looks similar to the exoskeleton other companies have been bringing out – namely, Comau, Atoun, Ekso Bionics, Roam Robotics, and Sarcos, among others.

LG Electronics to establish AI lab in Canada

LG Electronics to establish an artificial intelligence research laboratory in partnership with the University of Toronto, in Canada.

The company says the new facility is an expansion of its AI research and development work in North America.

LG invests $90 million in robotics and calls the technology a ‘key component’ of its growth strategy

LG, one of the world’s largest electronics companies, is reported to have invested $90 million in robotics companies so far and says robotics is an important part of its strategy going forward. 

According to a report on the International Business Times website, LG’s investments include a $3 million stake in Bossa Nova Robotics, which builds shelf-scanning robots for work in grocery stores.

And as quoted by IBT, a senior executive at LG said the company was investing in robotics both within its business operation as well as outside the company.

LG expands range of robots to explore new commercial possibilities

Electronics giant LG has expanded its portfolio of robots and says it is exploring a variety of commercial possibilities.

The company says the expansion of its robotics activity is a “key factor of LG’s transofrmation into an artificial intelligence company”.

Following the introduction of the company’s robot lineup a year ago, LG says it is continuing to “push the envelope” with the unveiling of three more work robots at CES 2018.
