Large Portuguese building 3D printed in record 9 Days

June 18, 2026 by Sam Francis

Portuguese construction 3D printing company Havelar has delivered a public building for the municipality of Matosinhos using construction 3D printing technology.

The project, a 500 m² (5,400 ft²) recycling center office at the Ecocentro de Perafita in Porto, was printed in 9 days on budget using a COBOD BOD2 construction 3D printer operated by a four-person crew.

The project demonstrates the benefits of construction 3D printing for public sector applications. Public construction projects in Portugal have historically faced cost overruns, making the budget-accurate delivery of this project particularly notable. Path Robotics unveils mobile robotic welding system combining AI and quadruped mobility

April 16, 2026 by David Edwards

Path Robotics, a developer of physical AI for manufacturing, has announced the launch of Rove, a mobile robotic welding system that pairs the company’s Obsidian physical AI model with a quadruped robot.

The launch marks a major expansion for Path Robotics – where Obsidian already delivers autonomous, adaptive welding inside fixed cells, Rove extends that capability to the field, bringing intelligent welding to the part rather than the part to the workpiece.

Shipbuilding, heavy construction, and large-scale fabrication face a shared constraint: massive assemblies, inconsistent fit-up, and workpieces that cannot be moved, let alone fixtured inside of a welding cell. Emerging trends in robotics and AI for high-risk industries: Construction, oil and gas, and mining

March 29, 2026 by Sam Francis

By Gary Ng, CEO and co-founder of viAct

There is a major shift occurring at some of the most hazardous workplaces on the planet: oil refineries, large construction projects, and underground mines, as new and improving technologies are being used for the initial line of defence.

Technologies, like Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and IoT wearables, especially smartwatches, have replaced the hard hat and safety supervisor as the last line of defence against workplace hazards by providing a first layer of protection against them.

Over the past few years, world has witnessed a rapid increase in both quantity and variety of robotic and automated systems being deployed to monitor, detect, and respond to workplace hazards in real-time, and there has probably never been a more opportune time for these technologies to evolve from being part of pilot programmes to permanent fixtures of the industrial workplace.
