Benefits of 3D guidance in industrial robots

January 26, 2026 by Sam Francis

Ten years ago, industrial automation was all about pre-programmed movements. Today, it’s capable of much more dynamic and intelligent processes that are less rigid. Core to this has been the integration of advanced vision systems.

This change kicked off while 2D vision was still the dominant form of guidance, but moving to 3D guidance has seen another wave of innovation in manufacturing.

Perceiving depth and spatial orientation has lifted the ceiling on the complexity of tasks robots can handle, but it’s also lifted the floor in how precise and reliable they are too, which is arguably more important. [Read more…] about Benefits of 3D guidance in industrial robots

From adaptive welding to AI painting: Automation breakthroughs transforming critical factory processes

December 1, 2025 by David Edwards

Welding, painting and dispensing sit at the intersection of precision, repeatability and risk. They are among the most technically demanding – and historically hazardous – processes on the factory floor.

For decades, robotics has offered incremental improvements, but a new generation of automation technologies is now reshaping these workflows at a fundamental level.

Driven by global competition, labour shortages and rising quality expectations, manufacturers in automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery, electronics and industrial fabrication are turning to smarter, more adaptable robotic systems. The Quiet Infrastructure Behind Every Smart Factory

November 27, 2025 by David Edwards

Smart factories often draw attention for the robots moving with precision and confidence. Anyone watching sees efficiency, speed, and quiet coordination. Behind that scene sits an entire ecosystem that many people never think about.

Robots perform with precision when the environment provides stability. A robotic arm can weld, lift, or assemble with confidence when power remains clean and signals remain uninterrupted.

The moment that the foundation weakens, accuracy drops, and production slows. Every movement depends on infrastructure that performs without hesitation. [Read more…] about The Quiet Infrastructure Behind Every Smart Factory

Ency Software releases ENCY 2.5 with 130 workflow, machining, and stability enhancements

November 26, 2025 by David Edwards

Ency Software has released ENCY 2.5, an update that introduces 130 improvements across machining, simulation, and core platform functionality.

The company says the new version focuses on smoother day-to-day workflows and greater stability for users working in CNC programming and simulation.

One of the most noticeable changes is in painting simulation. The part now renders in real time as the simulation runs, allowing users to “see what’s painted and what isn’t without toggling part visibility”. Archetype AI raises $35 million to scale deployment of ‘physical agents’ to solve real-world problems

November 21, 2025 by David Edwards

Archetype AI, a company developing physical AI, has raised $35 million in Series A funding led by IAG Capital Partners and Hitachi Ventures, with participation from new and existing investors including Bezos Expeditions, Venrock, Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund, Samsung Ventures, Systemiq Capital, E12 Ventures, Higher Life Ventures, and others.

Archetype AI is also introducing new tools to build and deploy “Physical Agents” that sense, understand, and act in real-world environments.

“Archetype AI is refining and defining the full stack of Physical AI, creating scalable solutions that operate in the real world, not just on screens or in simulations,” said Dennis Sacha, founding partner at IAG Capital Partners. Interview with Epson Robots’ Scott Marsic: ‘We make it simple to deploy robots’

November 5, 2025 by Sam Francis

Epson Robots has been a quiet but influential force in industrial robotics for decades, particularly in high-precision automation.

The company’s history in robotics dates back to its internal efforts to automate watch assembly, which pushed it toward small-parts handling, speed, and accuracy rather than heavy-payload industrial automation. That heritage still shapes its strategy.

Today, Epson is best known for its strong market position in the SCARA robot segment – where it has held a prominent position globally for many years – and for supplying compact six-axis systems, vision tools, force-sensing technology, and integrated software environments designed to reduce deployment time and complexity. Deloitte report says ‘physical AI’ era has begun as intelligent robots reshape industry

November 5, 2025 by Sam Francis

Deloitte has published a new report arguing that the world is entering the era of “physical AI” – intelligent robots capable of perceiving, reasoning, and acting in the physical world – and says the technology is set to reshape manufacturing, construction, logistics, and other industrial sectors.

The report, How robotics and physical AI are reshaping industries and society, describes a “pivotal moment” driven by three converging forces: rapid advances in AI models, falling hardware costs, and deepening labour shortages.

Deloitte says physical AI systems represent the next step beyond traditional automation, enabling machines to “autonomously interact with, interpret, and make decisions within physical environments, often in real time and with real-world feedback loops”.
