Autoware aims to make advanced AI available to small manufacturers

Autoware says it aims to make advanced AI and related technologies available to small- and medium-sized enterprises that would otherwise not be able to afford or implement it.

The EU-funded project calls its offering “cognitive manufacturing”, which includes the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies.

Volkswagen strengthens new software business unit

Volkswagen strengthens its Car.Software business unit with its group responsibility for in-car software.

Starting January 1, 2020, the Car.Software organization will operate as an in-dependent business unit.

Scania teams up with Combient network to tap into ‘huge potential’ of automation and AI

Scania says its partnership with the Combient Foundry is intended to tap into the “huge potential” of automation and artificial intelligence in the transportation industry.

The Combient network, which Scania is part of, is a cross-Nordic industry collaboration that aims to accelerate transformation in areas like automation, artificial intelligence, analytics and open innovation.

ABB launches IoT Dashboard for mid-sized commercial building automation solutions

ABB has launched its new “user-friendly IoT Dashboard” to improve usability and reduce maintenance in smart buildings.

The company’s says the launch is in response to its finding that “preventative maintenance is three to nine times cheaper than reactive maintenance”.

ABB says its IoT Dashboard is “easy to commission, simple to install and intuitive to use”, and allows stronger control, monitoring and automation of all building functions, from dimming and switching of lights to controlling blinds, heating and ventilation. RBF Morph speeds real-time design-data feedback

As engineers in industry and research look to develop digital twins of their physical products – with the longer-term goal of integration with the industrial internet of things – the pivotal importance of up-front, accurate, real-time modeling and simulation to optimize both manufacturing and product performance is becoming very clear.

Enabling the development of this critical functionality is RBF Morph, a technology deeply embedded within Ansys’ newly released R3 version of its advanced engineering software suite, in particular the Ansys Twin Builder systems-design tool.

Senseye extends automotive footprint with new US installations

Senseye, the industrial software company, is rolling out its suite of technologies and methodologies in automotive manufacturing facilities in the US.

Senseye’s technology suite, Senseye PdM, is used by global automotive manufacturers to monitor the condition of machinery in real time.

It spots emerging problems with monitored assets and identifies when they are most likely to fail by using machine learning algorithms to analyse data relating to key condition indicators such as vibration, pressure, temperature and torque levels. B&R unveils new simulation tool for digital twin development

B&R has integrated its “industrialPhysics” simulation tool into its Automation Studio engineering environment.

The company says the 3D simulation software greatly simplifies model-based machine development, enabling easier digital twin development.

B&R says developers can import CAD data from machine components or entire machines directly into the simulation tool, and then they can quickly and easily generate a digital twin for developing and testing the machine software. DMG MORI and Jungheinrich partner to develop driverless transport technologies

DMG MORI and Jungheinrich have formed a partnership to develop driverless transport systems – and have already demonstrated a first product.

The company says the DMG MORI PH-AGV 50 (main picture) “heralds a new era of flexible automation solutions in intralogistics”.
