Robot sales reach record high in North America for third consecutive quarter

August 31, 2022 by Mark Allinson

For the third-straight quarter, robot sales in North America hit a record high, driven by a resurgence in sales to automotive companies and an ongoing need to manage increasing demand to automate logistics for e-commerce.

According to the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), of the 12,305 robots sold in Q2 2022, 59 percent of the orders came from the automotive industry with the remaining orders from non-automotive companies largely in the food and consumer goods industry, which saw a 13 percent increase in unit orders over the same period, April through June, in 2021.

Jeff Burnstein, A3 President, says: “While automotive entities have long been the frontrunner in deploying robotics and automation, the last few years have seen food & consumer goods, life sciences and other industries grow at even higher rates. 3 Capabilities of an Electronic Manufacturing Services Company

August 31, 2022 by Mark Allinson

The process of manufacturing in-demand gadgets like phones and TVs follows several phases. In effect, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has to research and develop a design that meets current consumer needs.

Because of these current demands, most manufacturers build their products in-house or outsource related tasks. The latter has become a standard option for most OEMs as they focus on researching possible product improvements.

The subcontractors who handle these tasks do so in what’s referred to as electronic manufacturing services (EMS). Specialized engineering experts like Nortech Systems help OEMs attain their project goals.

The cost will depend on the complexity of the tasks and the current stage of product development. [Read more…] about 3 Capabilities of an Electronic Manufacturing Services Company

August 29, 2022 by David Edwards

US Midwest retailer Meijer is launching its participation in the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup Program with the use of two innovative technologies – the BeBot and Pixie Drone, partly based on the WasteShark produced by Ranmarine – to clean up Midwestern beaches and waterways in partnership with the Council of the Great Lakes Region.

This initiative is supporting the single largest deployment of these types of eco-friendly and remote-controlled devices across multiple states in the Great Lakes, which encompass the largest surface freshwater system in the world.

Rick Keyes, Meijer president and CEO, says: “It is a privilege to live near the Great Lakes, which inherently comes with the responsibility to protect them. [Read more…] about US retailer Meijer to launch beach and water cleaning drones in the Great Lakes

What is document classification, and how can machine learning help?

August 22, 2022 by David Edwards

It is hard to classify documents. At least manually.

Imagine this: you head into a standard bookstore where pieces are supposed to be classified as genres – like thriller, romance, science fiction, and more. You want to pick Andy Weir’s Hail Mary – a novel with thriller/mystery and science fiction elements.

While the book choice seems on point, the question is: which genre should you head towards? The book can be on the science fiction shelf or on the thriller counter. It can be anywhere. And that is when the manual document classification becomes troublesome. [Read more…] about What is document classification, and how can machine learning help?

IoT Basics: A Guide to the Internet of Things for Beginners

August 22, 2022 by David Edwards

IoT implies physical objects linked via wireless and wired networks. It refers to a group of internet-connected devices that communicate independently over the internet without needing a person to mediate the information exchange.

You might wonder how this varies from the “internet” as most individuals realize it. It’s not that different; it’s just a form of communication on the internet that focuses on “things” rather than people. It is divided into several sectors like Telecommunication IoT branches, Medical IoT and Infrastructure IoT.

Let’s look at the fundamentals of IoT, why it’s important and how it’s being used in business and by consumers. [Read more…] about IoT Basics: A Guide to the Internet of Things for Beginners
