Universal Robots reports revenue of $83 million in Q2

Universal Robots, the Danish collaborative robot maker, has reported Q2 revenue of $83 million, describing it as “robust growth” for the company.

Kim Povlsen, president of Universal Robots, says: “In headline terms, second quarter revenue is up 8 percent on the same period last year but in local Danish currency the company has seen growth of 22 percent for Q2.”

Povlsen adds that, measured this way, Universal Robots has seen growth of 30 percent across the first two quarters of 2022 compared to the first half of 2021. [Read more…] about Universal Robots reports revenue of $83 million in Q2

Autonomous trucking developer Inceptio partners with chipmaker Ambarella

Inceptio Technology, an autonomous driving truck technology developer, has selected two each of Ambarella’s CV2FS and CV2AQ edge AI systems on chip (SoCs) – a total of four CVflow SoCs – for its automotive-grade central computing platform.

This platform is at the core of Inceptio’s full-stack XuanYuan autonomous driving system for trucks, where Ambarella’s SoCs provide high-performance and low-power processing simultaneously for seven 8MP cameras, including AI compute, for surround camera perception and front ADAS safety features like collision avoidance.

Susan Beardslee, ABI Research’s principal analyst for supply chain management and logistics, says: “Globally, there were over 223 million registered commercial vehicles (light-duty to heavy-duty) by the end of 2021. Hexagon NovAtel delivers ROS 2 compatible drivers to the OEM7 receiver

Hexagon NovAtel has released its second purpose-built driver, powered by the latest series of the Robot Operating System, ROS 2.

The NovAtel OEM7 drivers are developed and managed by NovAtel engineers to provide an optimised interface for autonomy projects.

Cepton secures ‘industry’s largest” ADAS lidar deal with global automotive manufacturer

Lidar solutions provider Cepton Technologies has secured an ADAS lidar series production award at a leading, Detroit-based global automotive manufacturer.

Cepton says the contract is “the industry’s largest award to date”.

NuTec employs Epson cleanroom robots to automate medical syringe manufacturing

NuTec Tooling Systems, a developer of custom automation solutions, has built a syringe coating machine which integrates four Epson Robots Cleanroom SCARA robots for a pharmaceutical original equipment manufacturing.

The robots are employed at various stations within the machine to provide precise, efficient, and cost-effective automation to the customer’s syringe manufacturing process.

The concept phase of the project started in 2018, and the machine was ready for operation in November 2020, enabling the OEM to work with government agencies at a critical time to develop a cost-effective process for manufacturing mass quantities of syringes to use in the fight against Covid-19. Hexagon NovAtel unveils ROS-based autonomous driving platform

NovAtel, part of Hexagon, has released of its first purpose-built driver, powered by Robot Operating System (ROS), to support its OEM7 family of GNSS receivers.

The driver, developed by NovAtel engineers, provides an optimized interface enabling users to accelerate autonomous development projects by quickly incorporating NovAtel OEM7 receivers into custom applications.

Brain Corp raises $36 million to meet ‘growing demand for autonomous robots’

Brain Corp, a developer of artificial intelligence systems for the robotics industry, has raised $36 million in Series D funding to “help meet the growing demand for autonomous mobile robots”.

The company says the growth is being generated by retail, healthcare, airports, education and other industries now on the front lines of the coronavirus health crisis.

Dover and Burke Porter partner to develop ‘first-ever’ automated ADAS calibration system

Superlarge diversified global manufacturer Dover Corporation and Burke Porter Group, a supplier of testing and assembly systems, are partnering to develop “Mosaic”, which they say is the “first-ever” automated calibration system for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

ADAS is the umbrella term referring a number of technologies which give cars and other vehicles certain features that make them more automated or autonomous. Examples include collision avoidance, autonomous braking in emergencies, self-parking, and cruise control.

Akasol wins ‘major contract’ to supply lithium-ion battery systems for new e-buses

Akasol says it has agreed a deal with “an internationally operating commercial vehicle manufacturer based in northern Europe” for the serial production of lithium-ion battery systems for its entire fleet of e-buses. 

Akasol claims the contract with the original equipment manufacturer is worth “hundreds of millions of euros” and lasts until 2023, and outlines a close, long-term partnership between both companies and involves the supply of up to 4,500 battery systems.
