CATL and Honda agree ‘comprehensive strategic alliance’ on batteries for new energy vehicles

Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and automaker Honda have signed an agreement to form a “comprehensive strategic alliance” on new energy vehicle (NEV) batteries to strengthen their strategic partnership and promote the popularization of electrified vehicles.

This agreement will enable the two companies to begin discussions on a broad range of areas including joint development, stable supply, and the recycling and reuse of batteries.

By bringing together the two companies’ individual technology advantages, CATL and Honda will conduct joint development on NEVs batteries and joint research and development into fundamental technologies, aiming for their future application. ABB says its new 3D inspection robot cell makes quality control testing ‘10 times faster’

ABB has unveiled a new 3D inspection robot cell which it claims makes quality control testing “10 times faster”.

The industrial automation giant says its 3D quality inspection (3DQI) robot cell is “capable of detecting defects of less than half the width of a human hair and imperceptible to the naked eye”.

Amazon expands delivery robot trials to more US states

Amazon, the world’s biggest online retailer, is expanding its delivery robot trials to more US states.

The company had initially field tested its delivery robot in Snohomish County, in Washington state, as reported by Robotics and Automation News in January this year.

The deliveries in Washington were made using a robot called “Scout”, which look like they’re a modified version of Starship Technologies’ machine, and were being offered as part of Amazon’s Prime subscription service, which includes free deliveries on most orders. Siasun installs robotic system for inspection and categorization of rails

Siasun has installed a robotic system for the inspection and categorization of rail and beam material manufactured at an Anshan Iron and Steel facility.

The trial robotic system integrates eight industrial robotic arms which are equipped with sensing technology, mechanical control, artificial intelligence, and bionics.

Hyundai increases Hi6 controller steps capability from 20,000 to 10 million

Hyundai Robotics says it has significantly increased the number of steps its Hi6 robot controller is capable of – from 20,000 to 10 million.

The company unveiled the new version of Hi6 during a presentation at its Daegu headquarters in South Korea recently.

TM Robotics has released its new TS5000 robot controller. The company says the launch follows several years of development.

The new controller forms a launch pad for the next generation of industrial robots from Shibaura Machine – formerly known as Toshiba Machine.

Geek+ extends warehouse robotics and automation partnership with Decathlon

Warehouse robotics and automation provider Geek+ has extended its cooperation with Decathlon, one of the world’s largest retailers of sporting goods, present in over 50 countries with more than 1,600 stores globally.

Following the success of a two-year collaboration in its e-commerce and retail fulfillment centers in Shanghai, Decathlon accelerated its automation program, with AMR deployments at two new sites in China.
