Alleima pushes high-strength and corrosion-resistant steel for sustainable energy sectors

January 22, 2025 by David Edwards

Alleima, a manufacturer of high value-added products in advanced stainless steels and special alloys as well as products for industrial heating, has launched an updated version of its Alleima HighN50 bars to meet industry demands for materials that perform reliably under harsh conditions.

Alleima HighN50 bar is an advanced austenitic stainless steel (XM-19/UNS S20910) known for its exceptional strength, corrosion resistance, and non-magnetic properties.

Although the material has been in the market for years, Alleima has constantly refined and secured the product line and is now offering bars in two distinct variations: Alleima HighN50-A (annealed) and Alleima HighN50-HS (high-strength). Top 10 steel producers: Innovations, challenges, and future directions

January 17, 2025 by David Edwards

If you’re the kind of person who thinks steel is beautiful, you probably need to get a life. Or at least get out more.

But the thing about steel is that it’s always so shiny. So strong as well. If it’s stainless steel, like your average sink, you could use it for the rest of your life and it will look as shiny and as beautiful as the day it was made, provided you clean it of course.

Scientifically or technically speaking, even stainless steel does rust. But that’s boffins for you – always looking to spoil the party with useless facts. To the average person, with an average sink, stainless steel stays as good as new forever. [Read more…] about Top 10 steel producers: Innovations, challenges, and future directions

On the road to decarbonization: The importance of the electric arc furnace route in steel production

August 5, 2024 by Mark Allinson

The steel industry is facing an epochal challenge: decarbonization. With growing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the need to mitigate climate change, steel manufacturers must find alternative ways to make their production more environmentally friendly.

In this context, the electric arc furnace route is becoming increasingly important and promises a more sustainable future for the steel industry.

Traditionally, steel has mainly been produced by the blast furnace route, which is based on smelting iron ore with coke. However, this process is extremely energy-intensive and results in significant CO2 emissions. In response, the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) route has gained popularity in recent years.

Advanced Construction Robotics launches ‘world’s first’ rebar robot

March 15, 2023 by Mark Allinson

Advanced Construction Robotics (ACR) has launched its second product, IronBOT, during ConExpo, the largest gathering of construction professionals in North America, held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

IronBOT augments construction crews by lifting, carrying, and placing up to 5,000-pound bundles of rebar in a transverse or longitudinal orientation without the need for heavy lifting from crew members.

When IronBOT is combined with TyBOT, ACR’s rebar-tying robot, this powerful BOT Bundle can typically provide 50% schedule savings during rebar installation. [Read more…] about Advanced Construction Robotics launches ‘world’s first’ rebar robot
