Berkshire Grey and FedEx expand their robotic automation solutions partnership

Berkshire Grey, a provider of AI-enabled robotic solutions that automate supply chain processes, and logistics giant FedEx have expanded their strategic relationship.

As part of the expansion of this relationship, Berkshire Grey and FedEx have entered into an agreement for new development activities that will provide broader AI robotic automation capabilities to help improve the safety and efficiency of FedEx package handling operations globally.

The two companies also expect to execute a master system purchase agreement in 2022, which will streamline and expedite the procurement process for Berkshire Grey solutions across all FedEx operating companies globally. DHL opens its largest fully automated robotic fulfillment center in Germany

DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, is now operating a fully-automated robot picking system at a logistics center in the Lower Saxon municipality of Staufenberg for an important long-time customer, Peek & Cloppenburg, an international chain of department stores from Germany.

The system, AutoStore, is made by robot specialist Element Logic and covers 6,000 square meters, making it one of the largest fully-automated storage and order fulfillment systems in Germany.

It’s located in one of the five halls at the location, each of which offers 10,000 square meters of space and 50 loading bays. Hyundai launches delivery robot pilot programs

Hyundai Motor Group has started two pilot delivery service programs using autonomous robots based on its “Plug & Drive” (PnD) modular platform at a hotel and a residential-commercial complex located in the outskirts of Seoul.

The delivery robot consists of a storage unit integrated on top of a PnD driving unit. Alongside the loading box used to deliver items, a connected screen displays information for customers.

First shown at CES 2022, Hyundai’s PnD modular platform is an all-in-one single wheel unit that combines intelligent steering, braking, in-wheel electric drive and suspension hardware, including a steering actuator for 360-degree, holonomic rotation. Bin-picking systems market forecast to grow to $5.6 billion by 2033

The global bin picking systems market is anticipated to be valued at $1.7 billion in 2023 and it is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 12.5 percent to reach $5.6 billion by the end of 2033, according to a report by Fact.MR. 

A bin picking system is a technology in which a robot is incorporated with a 3D, camera, optical sensor (3D or 2D) and an end effector (magnet gripper, and others) to remove parts from a container full of disorganized, irregularly shaped pieces.

Kuka unveils new compact autonomous mobile robot for intralogistics

Kuka has expanded its portfolio of mobile platforms with the unveiling of a new autonomous mobile robot for intralogistics.

Describing it as a “compact powerhouse meets the highest safety requirements”, Kuka says the new generation of the KMP 600-S diffDrive is “fast – up to two meters per second – and equally safe, thanks to laser scanners and 3D object detection”.

Geek+ has provided 82 autonomous mobile robots for C-StoreMaster’s new $20 million distribution warehouse in Huntsville, Alabama, in the US.

UPS and Gap units partner to offer ‘unmatched automation and supply chain capabilities’ to apparel merchants

Two business units from within logistics giant UPS and famous retail brand GAP are combining their expertise to offer “unmatched automation and supply chain capabilities” to apparel and footwear merchants.

The companies say their new offering will enable mall and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to benefit from capabilities “previously only available to billion-dollar brands”.
