Caracol takes part in installation at Milan Design event

April 11, 2025 by Mark Allinson

In collaboration with Decibel and Vizcom, Caracol brings its cutting-edge robotic additive manufacturing technology to PORTAL, a living design installation debuting at Alcova (Former SNIA Factory, Room SN7a) during Milan Design Week 2025 (April 7-13, 2025).

Created by Decibel and Charles Birshaw, PORTAL explores the future of sustainable furniture design through Vizcom’s AI-assisted creative tools, circular production models, and robotic additive manufacturing.

Set within the abandoned SNIA factory – a raw, post-industrial space now overtaken by nature – PORTAL presents a striking juxtaposition: high-tech fabrication meets organic decay. [Read more…] about Caracol takes part in installation at Milan Design event

Kawasaki unveils hydrogen-powered robotic horse that you can ride

April 6, 2025 by David Edwards

Kawasaki Heavy Industries has unveiled Corleo, a hydrogen-powered, four-legged robotic vehicle designed for riders, at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025. This innovative concept integrates artificial intelligence and clean energy technologies to navigate diverse terrains. (See video below.)

Corleo’s four independent robotic legs enable balanced and stable movement across various surfaces. Each leg operates separately, allowing the robot to traverse rough and uneven terrain with ease.

Equipped with a 150cc hydrogen engine, Corleo generates electricity to power its limbs. This clean energy approach positions the robot as an environmentally friendly off-road mobility platform. [Read more…] about Kawasaki unveils hydrogen-powered robotic horse that you can ride

Rollon unveils new robot transfer system

March 27, 2025 by David Edwards

Rollon, a specialist developer of linear motion solutions, has launched its new Cobot Transfer Unit (CTU), designed to push the boundaries of collaborative robot applications.

With a series of key enhancements, the latest CTU model offers improved flexibility, easier integration, and increased performance, making it the ideal solution for automation processes requiring extended reach.

The new CTU introduces a range of updates aimed at simplifying installation and maximizing efficiency. A transition to a new motor helps ensure reduced lead times, as it is readily available in stock. Additionally, the adoption of a 220V power supply – matching the voltage of Universal Robots – eliminates the need for industrial voltage, simplifying integration and reducing electrical complexities. Opinion: Turnkey robotic systems are already behind the times

March 3, 2025 by Mark Allinson

By James Taylor, general manager of Americas, OnRobot

If you needed to buy a device to provide transportation from point A to point B, you wouldn’t buy a motor and then try to turn it into a vehicle. But many manufacturers who need a device to load and unload machines or stack pallets take exactly that approach when they buy a robot arm.

That’s especially true of manufacturers who are the primary targets for the ease-of-use, DIY marketing claims from many robot providers.

Unfortunately, what these manufacturers end up with – for tens of thousands of dollars – is just a robotic arm. It’s a component. An important one, certainly, but the device they need to tend their machine or stack their pallets is a complete robotic system. That includes – at a minimum – the robot arm, one or more grippers, user interface, and programming. [Read more…] about Opinion: Turnkey robotic systems are already behind the times
