ROS 2: The next generation for robust and scalable robotics applications

April 13, 2026 by Sam Francis

For more than a decade, the Robot Operating System (ROS) has been the backbone of robotics research and early-stage development. It provided a common framework, a shared language, and a vast ecosystem of reusable components that allowed engineers and researchers to accelerate innovation.

But ROS was never designed for the realities of commercial deployment.

As robotics moves from laboratories into warehouses, factories, roads, and public spaces, the demands on software infrastructure have changed. Reliability, security, scalability, and real-time performance are no longer optional. They are prerequisites. PickNik releases MoveIt Pro 9 to improve AI-driven robotics in variable environments

April 9, 2026 by Sam Francis

PickNik has released version 9 of its robotics development software MoveIt Pro, introducing new capabilities aimed at improving how robots operate in complex, real-world environments such as cleaning, sanitation and vehicle washing.

The update focuses on what the company describes as “scan-and-plan” workflows – a technique that allows robots to perceive their surroundings in real time and generate motion paths dynamically, rather than relying on fixed, pre-programmed instructions.

Industrial robots have traditionally performed best in structured environments, such as manufacturing lines, where tasks are repetitive and predictable. However, applications like restroom cleaning or food plant sanitation present a different challenge, requiring robots to adapt to changing layouts, irregular surfaces and variable geometries. RoboDK launches CAM solution designed to reduce robotic machining deployment times

February 6, 2026 by Sam Francis

RoboDK, a provider of robot simulation and offline programming software, has launched RoboDK CAM, describing it as “a comprehensive software solution that significantly reduces deployment times for automated machining cells”.

Unlike complex traditional approaches which require specialists to manually program each robot and end-effector using vendor-specific languages, RoboDK CAM automatically generates robot code from CAD designs and digital simulations, reducing the complexity and cost of machining automation deployments.

This allows manufacturers and integrators to move directly from design to production without having to be experts in robot programming. [Read more…] about RoboDK launches CAM solution designed to reduce robotic machining deployment times

Apera AI accelerates ‘4D vision’ installations with launch of new software

February 4, 2026 by Sam Francis

Apera AI, a specialist in “4D vision” for industrial robotic automation, has announced the release of Apera Vue 9.52 and major performance upgrades to Apera Forge.

This January 2026 update provides manufacturers with unprecedented control over robotic motion, deeper diagnostic insights into robot performance, and a significant acceleration in the simulation-to-deployment pipeline.

4D vision is a machine perception technology that combines 3D spatial data (position, shape) with temporal data (time) to analyze motion in real-time

Sina Afrooze, CEO and founder at Apera AI, says: “In 2026, 4D Vision-guided robotics has become the fastest path to higher uptime and global competitiveness for major manufacturers. [Read more…] about Apera AI accelerates ‘4D vision’ installations with launch of new software
