Dürr implementing a CO2-efficient paint shop with cross-plant system integration

June 30, 2026 by Sam Francis

Dürr is building a turnkey paint shop for Volkswagen Autoeuropa while simultaneously implementing a comprehensive software solution. The project combines state-of-the-art application and drying technologies designed to maximise CO2 reduction, along with an innovative SCADA integration that unifies three separate paint shops in a single system.

In 2024, a total of 236,100 vehicles – an average of 955 per day rolled off the production line at Volkswagen Autoeuropa. The factory in the Portuguese town of Palmela is currently preparing for future model launches with the addition of a new paint shop and advanced process optimisation software. Dürr launches new robots with optimized arm geometry for painting tasks

May 13, 2026 by David Edwards

With the EcoRP4, Dürr is introducing a new generation of robots used to paint car bodies. The compact painting robot features an asymmetric architecture that improves access to the body for the applicator, enabling it to reliably reach even hard-to-access interior areas.

Its reduced number of components also lowers maintenance requirements and operational costs, especially benefiting car manufacturers with high production volumes.

Since 1998, Dürr has shipped almost 20,000 painting robots from the Ecopaint robotic family worldwide. The latest addition to the family, the EcoRP4, has been developed as the successor to the six-axis EcoRP E/L x33iC robot, and is specifically designed for painting lines that handle high volumes and standardised applications. Interstuhl automates seat coating with Dürr’s robotic mould-surface technology

February 3, 2026 by Sam Francis

High-end furniture design company Interstuhl Büromöbel says it relies on modern coating technology from Dürr for the production of its work chairs for industrial and laboratory applications.

The new system automates the coating of the inner surfaces of foam moulds. Utilising the modular EcoSupply2 Core paint supply station and a 2K process controlled by an EcoAUC, Interstuhl has achieved an efficient coating process with up to five colours.

Interstuhl Büromöbel, headquartered in Meßstetten, is one of Europe’s leading chair manufacturers, producing high-quality office chairs for over 60 years. The company now employs innovative coating technology from Dürr in the production of its industrial and laboratory chairs. Dürr builds automotive paint shop for Volkswagen plant in Mexico

September 2, 2025 by Mai Tao

Dürr has built a paint shop designed to slash CO2 emissions at one of the Volkswagen Group’s largest manufacturing facilities. The plant in Puebla, Mexico, was inaugurated in January 2025.

The turnkey project includes two identical painting lines that are particularly environmentally friendly due to their electrified equipment, such as the electric drying system.

Dürr is also implementing key components of its new “Paint Shop of the Future” concept with a high-bay warehouse and driverless transport systems. [Read more…] about Dürr builds automotive paint shop for Volkswagen plant in Mexico

Dürr and GROB showcase new concept factory for battery cell production

June 13, 2025 by Sam Francis

Dürr to adopt new brand name as it aims for ‘more innovation in 50 percent less production space’

Less space and energy requirements, but more performance and the highest battery cell quality – that is the approach taken by engineering companies Dürr and GROB for their new concept factory for the production of lithium-ion battery cells.

At this year’s Battery Show Europe trade fair in Stuttgart, the two partners will be the largest exhibitors, showcasing the technical innovations that make this possible.

Key technologies include dry coating of the electrodes, which does not require a drying process, and powerful Z-folder technology for cell assembly with integrated notching. [Read more…] about Dürr and GROB showcase new concept factory for battery cell production

Dürr unveils new painting technology for vehicles

December 4, 2024 by Mark Allinson

Industrial robotics company Dürr has unveiled new painting technology for vehicles.

Dürr’s latest development enables mixed 2-component paint systems to be fed directly in the return system within the atomiser for the first time.

This eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions in the paint booth during flushing processes and colour changes. The new solution has been successfully deployed in two top coat lines for over a year.
