Festo showcases bio-inspired robots including rolling spider and flying ‘fox’ which actually looks more like a bat

Festo, a supplier of automation equipment, has unveiled two new lightweight robotic concepts inspired by nature.

The BionicWheelBot and BionicFlyingFox are this year’s creations from the company’s Bionic Learning Network, where Festo’s experts looked at the motion of spiders and bats to navigate complex situations – from crossing rocky terrain to learning efficient flight paths.

ABB and Heliospectra are joining forces to explore solutions that they say will boost the productivity and the sustainability of greenhouse and controlled environment agriculture produce industry in the Middle East and Africa.

ABB is an industrial giant with a big controls business, and Heliospectra is said to be a world leader in intelligent lighting technology for greenhouse and controlled plant growth environments.

Emerson releases new zoned safety valve island

Emerson has introduced the ability to integrate multiple safety zones within a single ASCO Numatics Series 503 valve island.

This enables the creation of up to three independent electro-pneumatic safety zones, while also allowing independent non-safe sections to co-exist within one valve island assembly.

Air Power Products gains ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Air Power Products, a manufacturer and distributor of lubricated and oil-less air compressors, vacuum systems, regenerative blowers, regenerative compressed air dryers and other associated products, has gained certification status under the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

The company was awarded the new certificate in January this year, and had earned its first ISO 9001 certification in February 2001, under the ISO 9001-2000 standard.

Almost 7,000 robotics companies now established in China

There are almost 7,000 robotics companies now established in China, according to a report from Xinhua.

Xinhua says the exact number established in 2017 alone is actually 1,686.
