Festo showcases robot dragonfly and swift

November 4, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Festo has been showcasing it flying robotic dragonfly and swift at the recent RoboBoston event – the MassRobotics sponsored 5th annual Robot Block Party.

The design of the Festo BionicOpter was inspired by the flight of the dragonfly. Like its natural role model, the ultra-light aircraft can move in all directions, hover on the spot, and sail without flapping its wings.

The BionicOpter for the first time makes it possible for a single model to carry out more flight maneuvers than helicopters and motorized and non-motorized gliders combined. [Read more…] about Festo showcases robot dragonfly and swift

4 Ways Drones Will Change The World Forever

October 28, 2020 by Polly

Drones have become so popular for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, they’re just cool. They are v/stol flying robots. They can lift off vertically, hover in the air, fly around, spinning, manoeuvring in tight spots and just allowing us to see things from a bird’s eye perspective.

On the other hand, they are also useful for businesses that want to inspect areas in manufacturing plants, fields in agriculture, disaster recovery operations and safety concerns for areas like volcanos and dams. But, they are being adapted to play a critical role in military applications, sports events, and the logistics industry too. Let’s take a closer look at this. NASA selects first three companies for commercial moon landing technologies

May 31, 2019 by Sam Francis

Three companies awarded total of $250 million to develop lunar technology

NASA has selected three commercial Moon landing service providers that will deliver science and technology payloads under Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) as part of the Artemis program.

Each commercial lander will carry NASA-provided payloads that will conduct science investigations and demonstrate advanced technologies on the lunar surface, paving the way for NASA astronauts to land on the lunar surface by 2024.

Jim Bridenstine, NASA administrator, says: “Our selection of these US commercial landing service providers represents America’s return to the Moon’s surface for the first time in decades, and it’s a huge step forward for our Artemis lunar exploration plans.
