Startup company Foamplant launches ‘world’s first sustainable foam’

November 2, 2022 by Mark Allinson Leave a Comment

A startup company called Foamplant, based in the Netherlands, is launching what it claims is “the world’s first and only fully circular, sustainable open cell foam”.

Branded “Moorefoam”, the product will be officially launched at Foam Expo Europe (8-10 November, Stuttgart, Germany).

Patented Moorefoam technology enables circular production in the bedding, furniture, automotive and avionics sectors, says the company. Moorefoam is available to order now, with initial deliveries in mid-April 2023. [Read more…] about Startup company Foamplant launches ‘world’s first sustainable foam’

Recycling robot tackles electrical waste

August 24, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

A sustainable circular economy depends on recycled electronic consumer goods. But recycling electronic waste can endanger human workers – which makes it an optimal application for robotics and automation.

To overcome these challenges, the Irish technology company Votechnik has developed a system based around a Kuka industrial robot.

Because of mercury and other gases, as well as sharp-edged parts, it’s dangerous for people to dismantle LCD screens and monitors. [Read more…] about Recycling robot tackles electrical waste

Canadian innovator wins award for robot that does the dirtiest of industrial dirty work

June 18, 2022 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

Nicolas Olmedo is on a mission to keep people safe by sending robots where no human should ever have to go: into the murky, muddy sludge of industrial mine tailing ponds and other hazardous terrains that need to be continually monitored.

His ground-breaking work to develop intelligent robots capable of traversing mud, snow, ice or rock using screw-shaped pontoons has earned Olmedo a prestigious award from Mitacs, a national innovation organization that fosters growth by solving business challenges with research solutions from academic institutions.

In recognition of his efforts to advance the robots through his company, Copperstone Technologies, Olmedo – one of three Copperstone co-founders who completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta – was presented the Mitacs Outstanding Entrepreneur Award on June 2 at a ceremony in Montreal, Canada. Plastic-eating bacteria could help recycle waste ‘six times faster’

October 1, 2020 by David Edwards Leave a Comment

The University of Portsmouth scientists who re-engineered the plastic-eating enzyme PETase have now created an enzyme “cocktail” which can digest plastic up to six times faster.

A second enzyme, found in the same rubbish dwelling bacterium that lives on a diet of plastic bottles, has been combined with PETase to speed up the breakdown of plastic.

PETase breaks down polyethylene terephthalate (PET) back into its building blocks, creating an opportunity to recycle plastic infinitely and reduce plastic pollution and the greenhouse gases driving climate change. 5 Technologies That Would Change Waste Management Industry

May 9, 2019 by Mark Allinson

Today’s waste management system can’t deal with the tons of trash that are generated every single day.

Automating the procedure of trash disposal or sorting, by using artificial intelligence for smart waste management and recycling, is expected to be better garbage disposal method to recycle.

Do you remember the story of the sci-fi movie, Wall-E, where robot waste compactors were stationed on earth to clean it? [Read more…] about 5 Technologies That Would Change Waste Management Industry
