SICK launches ‘ready-made, very versatile’ quality control system

December 15, 2020 by Elaine

SICK’s newly-developed MQCS (Modular Quality Control System) is an “off the shelf”, multifunctional machine vision system, and is sold as a ready-to-use package of hardware and pre-written software. Suitable for code reading, 2D or 3D inspection duties, the MQCS reduces cost and development time needed to set up automated quality inspection and logistics applications.

Originally, developed as a solution for non-contact 3D inspection of chocolate moulds in the confectionery industry, the MQCS soon demonstrated its versatility to be adapted for other applications such as “right product/right packaging” code matching, counting and aggregation of varied packages, monitoring the cycle life of materials handling equipment, and other 3D inspection and measurement tasks. Major European and Japanese car manufacturers integrate Techman Robot into supply chains

November 23, 2020 by Mai Tao

Major European and Japanese car manufacturers are integrating Techman Robot collaborative robots into their supply chains.

Collaborative robots that can be flexibly applied to a small-volume but large-variety production line, focus on human-robot collaboration and facilitate smart manufacturing are emerging.

Compared to other industries, the level of automation in the automotive industry is much higher. The latest report from Kenneth Research predicts that the shipment and sales revenue brought by collaborative robots in the automotive industry will increase by 43 percent every year by 2022. Automating image-based inspection with artificial intelligence

November 4, 2020 by Elaine

High demands on products as well as high time and cost pressure are decisive competitive factors across all industries and sectors.

Whether in the food or automotive industry quality, safety and speed are today more than ever before factors that determine the success of a company.

Zero-defect production is the goal. But how can it be guaranteed that only flawless products leave the production line? [Read more…] about Automating image-based inspection with artificial intelligence

Ensenso 3D stereo camera system imitates human vision to make robotic inspection cells faster and more accurate

September 14, 2020 by Elaine

The new Ensenso 3D stereo industrial camera system “imitates human vision” to make robotic inspection cells “faster and more accurate”, according to Imaging Development Systems (IDS).

Each Ensenso camera system contains two 2D IDS cameras to view the scene from different positions, similar to the way human eyes work, with artificial intelligence processing the data, rather like the human brain does.

“Special matching algorithms compare the two images, search for corresponding points and visualize all point displacements in a disparity map,” explains IDS. “This is then used to calculate depth information for the resulting point cloud.” [Read more…] about Ensenso 3D stereo camera system imitates human vision to make robotic inspection cells faster and more accurate

Quality control automation with the help of technology

August 25, 2020 by Polly

Quality control inspection is one of the most crucial parts of the manufacturing process for most of the companies and industries. Especially if a small error in the production can result in a massive loss for the company, it becomes imperative to invest in better quality control systems.

A non-automated quality control system requires a large human force that results in increased costs and is still not entirely reliable. On the other hand, automated quality control can help to grow your business by cutting on manual inspection costs.

Read on to know more about the automated quality inspection and how your firm can benefit from its installation. [Read more…] about Quality control automation with the help of technology

Precision and Convenience: How Robots Are Sustaining Maintenance Beyond Working Lines

August 4, 2020 by Polly

When we think of robotics and automation, the first sight that comes to our mind is that of an industrial production line, where giant robots carry out the high-precision task of assembling products, one step at a time without compromising on efficiency and accuracy.

But as the technology of robotics and automation is becoming much more sophisticated, the uses of robots are expanding from the factory floor to new territories.

One of these new domains is that of maintenance in every industry. Robotics have made concrete inroads in the maintenance department of every aspiring industry and this reach is not unwarranted. ABB says its new 3D inspection robot cell makes quality control testing ‘10 times faster’

July 28, 2020 by David Edwards

ABB has unveiled a new 3D inspection robot cell which it claims makes quality control testing “10 times faster”.

The industrial automation giant says its 3D quality inspection (3DQI) robot cell is “capable of detecting defects of less than half the width of a human hair and imperceptible to the naked eye”.

It adds that the cell will “dramatically accelerate production by providing fast, accurate testing to make metrology easier and less time consuming”. [Read more…] about ABB says its new 3D inspection robot cell makes quality control testing ‘10 times faster’
