SICK’s newly-developed MQCS (Modular Quality Control System) is an “off the shelf”, multifunctional machine vision system, and is sold as a ready-to-use package of hardware and pre-written software. Suitable for code reading, 2D or 3D inspection duties, the MQCS reduces cost and development time needed to set up automated quality inspection and logistics applications.
Originally, developed as a solution for non-contact 3D inspection of chocolate moulds in the confectionery industry, the MQCS soon demonstrated its versatility to be adapted for other applications such as “right product/right packaging” code matching, counting and aggregation of varied packages, monitoring the cycle life of materials handling equipment, and other 3D inspection and measurement tasks. German citizens to be given €1,200 a month for doing nothing
German citizens are to be given €1,200 a month, or about $1,400, for doing nothing in an experiment to evaluate the effects of a concept called “universal basic income”.
Universal Basic Income, or UBI, is an idea that has been around for many years, and has many supporters and advocacy groups around the world, but was never really taken seriously in the past.

Support for Universal Basic Income growing as economies look to recover from coronavirus devastation
A couple of years ago, RoboticsAndAutomationNews.com published a story about Finland introducing a “Universal Basic Income” for a small number of its citizens as an experiment.
The Finnish government’s idea was that it would study the possibility of using UBI as a way to offset the unemployment caused by automation.
Although it was well worth reporting, we were somewhat flippant about UBI, suggesting it was a communist idea that would never take off. Finland, of course, was within the sphere of influence of the old Communist or Eastern Bloc, and the now-gone USSR. Finland to give citizens universal basic income because of robot invasion
Finland is in danger of developing a reputation either as a nation of visionary ideas or one full of utopian communists.
Not many years ago, the country’s leaders declared superfast access to the internet a human right – which is fair enough.
Now it’s giving away free money to a couple of thousand of its citizens in anticipation of robots taking over their jobs and making them redundant. [Read more…] about Finland to give citizens universal basic income because of robot invasion
Denso, eSol, and NEC form joint venture for connected cars
Denso is teaming up with eSol and NEC to develop superfast networks for connected cars.
