Ericsson, TIM and Comau test the ‘factory of the future’

June 17, 2022 by Mark Allinson

Ericsson, TIM and Comau say they are testing the “factory of the future” through something called “5G network slicing”.

The three companies have joined forces to develop, on an experimental basis, innovative solutions for Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing by leveraging the potential of the 5G network. This initiative is part of the EU-funded 5Growth project.

Thanks to TIM and Ericsson’s deployment of a 5G network at Comau’s headquarters in Turin (Italy), three new applications have been launched to demonstrate the advantages of the new technology, and in particular those arising from the slicing functionality of the network, within an industrial environment. Hitachi begins testing of 5G powered industrial IoT solutions

September 29, 2020 by Elaine

Hitachi has begun testing of 5G powered industrial IoT solutions at its Silicon Valley research center in California, USA to accelerate the development of platform technologies and scalable solutions for digital transformation.

A dedicated 5G network has been installed at its Silicon Valley Research Center, in partnership with Ericsson. The network will leverage 5G and Hitachi’s platform technology to accelerate the development and demonstrate the value of digital transformation across multiple industries.

Fifth generation wireless network technology, commonly referred to as “5G technology,” is expected to change the way society operates by providing ubiquitous connectivity with ultra-reliable low-latency communication. 5G has the power to accelerate the digital transformation of not just the telecom sector, but businesses in general. Sectors that will benefit from the increased resiliency and efficiency that 5G technology affords include manufacturing, mobility, healthcare, energy, and IT, though the platform is also expected to support new business models.
