NXP launches new ‘multi-gigabit’ automotive Ethernet switch for time-sensitive networking

February 3, 2020 by David Edwards

NXP, one of the world’s largest suppliers of automotive semiconductors, has launched a “multi-gigabit Ethernet switch” designed to help automakers deliver the high-speed networks required for evolving connected vehicles.

NXP says its SJA1110 is “the first automotive Ethernet switch with safety capabilities built in”, offering integrated 100BASE-T1 PHYs, hardware-assisted security as well as multi-gigabit interfaces.

Optimized for integration with NXP’s S32G vehicle network processor, the SJA1110 switch is also part of an overall networking solution which includes the VR5510 power management integrated circuit. Learn to become a Data Scientist without getting a degree

February 3, 2020 by David Edwards

In the generation that we live in today, it is a very common question of whether you can become a professional in a particular field without actually having a degree.

Amongst these sets of questions, one of the most popular ones is the possibility of becoming a Data Scientist without a degree. To get the correct answer to these questions, it is better to look for guidance.

The first Chief Data Scientist, DJ Patil built the first team of Data Science at LinkedIn. He became the Chief Data Scientist of the US in the year 2015. [Read more…] about Learn to become a Data Scientist without getting a degree

Scania tests autonomous truck in complex manoeuvre in traffic

February 3, 2020 by David Edwards

Scania has conducted a test in which an autonomous made a complex manoeuvre on a relatively busy road.

Autonomous vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems need robust and precise positioning to enable reliable operations.

This is especially important in the early transitional phase of the technology, when other vehicles around it will not be automated. [Read more…] about Scania tests autonomous truck in complex manoeuvre in traffic

ForwardX Aiming to Deliver ‘Best-in-Class’ Autonomous Mobile Robots

January 30, 2020 by Mai Tao

By Nic Temple, Vice President of Sales for the Americas at ForwardX Robotics

Given the proliferation of warehouses, distribution centers, direct to consumer (D2C) business models, fleets of AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots), questioning the validity of innovation is worthy of examination.

Unlike in prior years when attendees would walk the show floor for days, many are using the MHI MODEX app and visiting for just a single day.

For that reason, a compelling innovation from ForwardX (Booth 1207) should be the first stop for serious AMR decision-makers. [Read more…] about ForwardX Aiming to Deliver ‘Best-in-Class’ Autonomous Mobile Robots

Pick-by-Vision by Picavi Predicted as #1 MODEX 2020 Superstar

January 28, 2020 by David Edwards

By Carsten Funke, Chief Sales Officer for Picavi

And the winner for the most important logistics solution at MODEX 2020 in Atlanta, GA, March 9-12 is the hands down favorite: Picavi Cockpit (at Booth 5485).

Picavi Cockpit

The Picavi Cockpit tool generates smart data for managing, maintaining, and customizing the screen of the Pick-by-Vision glasses: analytics, mobile device management (MDM), and configurator. Users benefit from enormous time and cost savings, greater flexibility and transparency, as well as improved process quality.

Unlike anything else at MODEX, this innovation unleashes the full potential of order picking supported by assisted reality (AR). With the smart data function analytics, sensors on the glasses collect process parameters that can be evaluated using the Picavi Cockpit. Opinion: ‘Scale’ is the magic word for digital transformation in 2020

January 26, 2020 by David Edwards

By Keith Higgins, vice president of digital transformation for Rockwell Automation

In 2019, we saw a 400 percent growth in digital transformation projects moving through the post-implementation stage, according to a recent study by Rockwell Automation.

The maturation of digitization projects will continue throughout 2020, and with this trend, the industry will evolve from exploring the primary benefits of data-driven solutions to understanding how these projects can be used as a resource to help scale smart factory initiatives.

Digital transformation has reached its inflection point. As organizations move their initiatives from project roll-out to continuous process improvement in 2020, scaling becomes a key topic of conversation. [Read more…] about Opinion: ‘Scale’ is the magic word for digital transformation in 2020

When it comes to wireless transmission, power must catch up with data in Industry 4.0

January 26, 2020 by David Edwards

By Paul Wiener, VP strategic marketing, GaN Systems

With the proliferation of robotics, artificial intelligence, and sensors – the increasingly intelligent industrial environments of today are barely recognizable when compared to the assembly lines introduced 100 years ago.

This is true – with one important exception. In some of the most advanced factory and warehouse spaces, power-reliant hardware devices are still plugged into a fixed electrical outlet to operate or charge.

So while data transmission has successfully evolved from wired to wireless, this is only beginning to be true for power. [Read more…] about When it comes to wireless transmission, power must catch up with data in Industry 4.0

How Automation and Artificial Intelligence Can Boost Cybersecurity

January 20, 2020 by Liv

Cybercriminals are always evolving their efforts and coming up with more advanced ways to target their victims. And while there are many tools available to stop them, there is a lot of space for improvement. Especially if you take automation into account.

Machine learning and artificial intelligence are playing a significant role in cybersecurity. Automation tools can prevent, detect, and deal with tons of cyber threats way more efficiently and faster than humans. And it will continue to expand down the road. To that end, here’s a quick look at the significant differences AI/ML technologies can make to corporate cybersecurity approaches.

Mitigating the risks posed by omnipresent technology

Technology has permeated every facet of personal and work lives. Above anything else, it increased their attack surface. And it has become a massive problem for companies in recent years – they have to account for many applications and devices.
